Guest guest
Yes we did. Here's what we found:He needed the only classical ones first, no words. The songs with words totally made him nuts. The entire staff was blaming the OT for making him crazy. :)So we couldn't go in the order the program recommends. Once we had a few of the classical cd's under our belt, we went back to the ones with words and he was fine. You have to play with it a bit - it's just like supplements, what works for one isn't going to work for the other so you need to work around it by watching your child and changing the treatment plan. We had to not start where the program wants you to start and it worked phenomenally. We did 20 minutes, 2x a day, every day. But we started with about 10 to get him used to the headphones and I loaded it up on an iPod so it wouldn't be big and bulky (and the added benefit is that I now have the cd's and can do it myself whenever I need to). Cheryl ~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~~@Gryffins_Tail~ ThanksCheryl! Did you ever see an increase in stimming or agitated behavior? We actually did try it very briefly with a therapist who was not as well-trained in it as she should have been. My daughter seemed to have better articulation after the first cd, but the second one caused stimming and she was very irritable. She turned three right around that time so Early Intervention ended and we had to wait months to start out patient OT, so we never went back to it. I want to try it again - I was just curious to know if there are any negative side effects. Did you do it twice a day every day? - Kirk- To: mb12 valtrex From: cheryl.biomed.mom@...Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2011 17:59:24 -0800Subject: Re: speech If your therapist will do it, I would do it in a heartbeat. It was awesome for us. You can do it yourself if you need to, there are many home programs (we used www.vitallinks.net through both the SD and early intervention). It *does* help with the brain/body connection. The most areas I found it helped - self-regulation and expressive/receptive language. If you decide to do it and have questions, I'm happy to help. I know a lot of people that were helped in the sensory department (my son wasn't so sensory so we didn't see much there because there wasn't enough to see). I can't say if it did or didn't help with potty training - we started it well before getting there so I don't know. We started it at about 2.5 and potty trained him at 3.5. Cheryl ~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~ ~@Gryffins_Tail~ Cheryl, Can you tell me more about the therapeutic listening? My PDD daughter has poor articulation (she speaks in sentences - just very hard to understand). Also, she is 3 1/2 and absolutely refusing to potty train. I have been told by her OT that therapeutic listening can help with the brain/body connection, which in turn helps with potty training, sensory issues, sleeping issues, etc (she has all of these). If you wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts/experiences with this, I would appreciate it. On that year's father's day, my son fell, cried, and said, "I want momma!" DH and I both cried, DH didn't care that he was asking for mommy on father's day . He gained a lot of words but didn't really pick up on the sentences. AIT (we used Therapeutic Listening) - A huge jump in comprehension and self-regulation. Antivirals - Wow, is all I can say. He went from simply having words to having sentences. Lots of them. Antifungals - another big jump in language when we added antifungals a month after starting antivirals. LDN - really helped with pragmatic language. Cheryl ~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~ ~@Gryffins_Tail~ HI all:My daughter is non verbal. Guest guest
That's funny - the same thing happened with us. The first cd was classical and she did great. The second one had words and she freaked. Good to know that you can play around with it a bit. I was told you had to go in order. Thanks for the info! - Kirk- To: mb12 valtrex From: cheryl.biomed.mom@...Date: Fri, 28 Jan 2011 13:26:10 -0800Subject: Re: speech Yes we did. Guest guest
So sorry, I keep meaning to respond to this as I think it would help, and then I get side tracked (my adhd is kicking in, just went and took some mag and b12..) Okay... According to 'the book'...(It goes vitamin, then mineral, then amino acid, and then the herbs that are *supposed to help* -- keep in mind that gave her son the Pau' D'Arco, and he got a rash. -- so I would probably try the vitamins and minerals first...I will also try to include a juicing strategy for these.. HA! grapes, strawberries means a deficiency in: B6 and B12, Manganese, Arginine, Proline. Fruit/veg for juicing: concord grapes (purple ones), Cantaloupe, cabbage, carrots, endive, watercress, parsley Cheddar cheese means a deficiency in: Vitamin D, Potassium, Aspartic Acid, Asparagine. Fruit/veg for juicing: carrots, dandelion leaves (great for the liver, although hi ox) beet tops (hi ox) blueberries, cabbage, endive, parsley, spinach, pineapple, grapes, celery. For wheat/gluten: EFA's (Linoleic) (*I personally would use borage oil for that one), Magnesium (I use Naturally calm, LOVE IT!) Histidine, Black walnut, kelp, and spirulina. Juicing strategy: (magnesium)limes, plums, dandelion leaves, apples, grapes, savoy cabbage, pears and peaches. For Beef/Eggs (whites and yolks) - Biotin, Carnitine, and Sulfur, for amino acids (methionine, cystein, taurine, glutathione, threonine, carnitine) and herbs are: sarsaparilla, eyebright, fenugreek, dandelion, burdock, fennel seeds. Juicing strategy: (not really one...hmmm) BUT..dessicated liver is perfect! It comes in pill form!! It doesn't have anything for: mustard, oregano, asperillus niger, and penicillium natatum... ....so, I would make a juice that contained... lime, pears, cabbage, dandelion leaves (bitter-good for liver though), grapes (concord)(tart, good for B12), parsley and endive. To make it taste better, I would add, apples (golden del), kale, ginger, and fennel. I am going to have to try that. I don't have limes, only lemon, and I need concord grapes, but not sure I can find those in organic. ugh. laura > > > > > > > > > > HI all: > > > > > My daughter is non verbal. Guest guest
and that makes complete and total sense to me now!! Thanks Toni. As Jimmy would *rash* on high ox until I added calcium and magnesium and zinc. (BTW - No more rashes!) You know, I had been 'fighting' that stupid rash since he got over being *sick* when he was 1. He's 4 now...and we finally have reason and a 'cure.' Perfect skin...ahhh.... laura > > > > > > > So sorry, I keep meaning to respond to this as I think it would help, and > > then I get side tracked (my adhd is kicking in, just went and took some mag > > and b12..) > > > > Okay... > > > > According to 'the book'...(It goes vitamin, then mineral, then amino acid, > > and then the herbs that are *supposed to help* -- keep in mind that > > gave her son the Pau' D'Arco, and he got a rash. -- so I would probably try > > the vitamins and minerals first...I will also try to include a juicing > > strategy for these..
