Guest guest
Hello welcome to this group & to Intuitive Eating as a new way of living. I can tell you that I've only been doing it for 4 months & have felt like an incredible weight has been lifted off my shoulder. No more diets, false hopes, quick fixes, being cruel to myself & beating myself up when yet another diet has failed, just kindness to myself & my body & forgiveness when I try to rush the process or when I've forgotten that this will take TIME to get used to. I realized today as I was looking at my reflection in the mirror during my yoga class that I used to dread facing those mirrors & it kept me from going to the gym but now I am looking (like Geneen says in W, F & G) with the eyes that are in my chest (or something to that effect). It's a completely different experience for me to see myself that way. mj > > Hello everyone! My name is . I am 39 and live in NC. My husband is a > Marine and right now I am a sahm. Guest guest
I have noticed that over the last couple of days, it seems like I have been eating all day long. It is almost like I am making up for lost time eating things I have not allowed myself to have in forever. Is this normal? I believe it will pass as I adjust to knowing I can eat what I like when I am hungry. I can't wait til I feel ok with my image in the mirror :-) To: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Wed, October 13, 2010 4:22:23 PMSubject: Re: Hi!!!! Guest guest
Hi, , Nice to have you here! There's plenty of support and everyone seems to be truly into figuring out how IE will work for them. Looking forward to getting to know you better and hearing your thoughts on this process. I think probably everyone was at first incredulous that IE could work--it took me years before I was willing to give it a try. All best, Laurie Hi!!!! Hello everyone! My name is . I am 39 and live in NC. My husband is a Marine and right now I am a sahm. My youngest child just started kindergarten in August. She is 5, I also have two sons, one is 12 the other is 18. I have looked at intuitive eating off and on for a while. I have gotten the book and glanced through it and then put it on paperback swap a couple of times lol. Absolutely certain it can't work and the perfect DIET is out there somewhere just waiting for me! Well I am finally tired of it all. Guest guest
Thank you for the welcome. I don't have my book yet. Where do you suggest starting? I am getting rid of all my diet books Letting myself eat. I guess I am so used to having a diet book to go to when I am not sure of where to start....ugh! Guest guest
I will give it a try. I don't know how good I will do at it. To: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Thu, October 14, 2010 1:41:05 PMSubject: Re: Hi!!!! Here's an idea, . Eat very, very mindfully. As an experiment, take one raisin. Just one. Look at it. Explore everything about its looks. The colors, the shininess, the wrinkles, anything else you can see. Feel it. Roll it around your fingers. Is it rough? Smooth? Different feelings in different parts? Hear it. Did you realise that a raisin makes a noise when you roll it next to your ear? What sounds does it make? Smell it. Explore how many different scents you can smell when you smell the raisin. What effects do these smells have on you? Put it in your mouth. Feel the raisin. Roll it around and explore the textures on your tongue, palate and teeth. Notice the smells. Have they changed? Taste the raisin. How many different tastes can you identify? Chew the raisin. Slowly. Notice the sounds it makes. Notice how your mouth produces saliva in response. Do the tastes change as you chew? When you've chewed, swallow. Make sure you feel the raisin going down as you swallow. Take a few moments to notice the after-taste. Do you like the after-taste? How does it affect your enjoyment of the raisin? I can spend five or more minutes with someone, one raisin each, and we get more fun out of that one raisin than out of an entire box. When you can be really, really mindful of your food, imagine how different eating will become. Paddy Thank you for the welcome. I don't have my book yet. Where do you suggest starting? I am getting rid of all my diet books Letting myself eat. I guess I am so used to having a diet book to go to when I am not sure of where to start....ugh! Guest guest
We did the raisin exercise in the workshop, I couldn't believe how wonderully sweet & satisfying that one raisin was. The taco chip on the other hand tasted like cardboard & the Hershey's kiss (which I was dying to eat) tasted all waxy & sickly sweet. It was a great exercise I'm glad that Geneen keeps using it. > > > > > > > I have noticed that over the last couple of days, it seems like I have been > > eating all day long. Guest guest
Hi michelle, For me one really important symbol of trusting myself was throwing out my scale. After that i continued to weigh myself ONCE a month (one time only, not stepping on & off & on like I used to LOL) on my wii & today I was telling my hubby that I am no longer even doing that. I need to show myself that I trust this process & that I am more than a number on the scale. besides, when I look back I can see how I used to let that number dictate how my entire day would go. if it was up, watch out if it was down, cloud 9. WHY? WHY? WHY? Do we do this to ourselves? It's like self torture. It makes NO SENSE. glad you are here mj > > > >I have noticed that over the last couple of days, it seems like I have been > >eating all day long.
