Guest guest
Keep in mind, the sample of blood needs only touch the very tip of the test strip. Not anywhere else on the strip. There's some kind of automatic flow that the strips are designed to create when blood is placed on the tip. Don't try to put blood anywhere else. Dave " ...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. " [ 16:33] Testing Troubles Hi All, My doctor is finally coming tomorrow and so I will see what he has to say about this whole thing. But I am having a real problem with testing. I have gotten over being afraid of the poke and I know now that it is the tip of the test strip that is the sensitive part. But I have only had success a couple times getting blood to come out. Sometimes those pokes hurt quite a bit and I squeeze my fingers and everything and it won't come out. Or at least I cannot get enough of a sample to make the strip happy. So after a lot of frustration and repeated pokes on different fingers I put just a bit of control solution and it works like a charm. What am I doing wrong and should I think about alternative site testing? I only have one more test strip and two lancets that came with my meter. The guy at Prodigy said they could be old. But why do they work perfectly with control stuff? So I only got one reading myself that was high and two that said it was low without giving me a number which could mean it got too little blood to measure. My brother got the 137 the first day I got the meter. I can't waste the other one until I get new strips so I don't know what to tell the doctor. He will probably just have the technician come to draw blood and test it that way until I really get set up and going. I really need a way I won't goof it up. Guest guest
I did not know that at first but figured that out by reading the manual I had and then the newer manual they sent me on disk. And with a little drop of control solution on my finger tip gouching the end of itit works perfectly. Guest guest
Lora, I also have had trouble getting blood on the strip. I have to wrap a rubber band around my finger and then I squeeze it. That is the only way that I can get enough blood to test. For me, it works every time. I am so glad that I finally found a way to do it successfully every time. My diabetes educator gave me that hint a long time ago, and that is what I use now. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Arlene, that is a nifty idea and I will definitely try it along with some of the other hints given to me in the group. When my brotherDan tested me he had a heck of a time getting blood and said he had no idea bhow I would get it. Without sight that is. So if I could get a sujre fire way of getting it all the time it would be wonderful and not wasteful of the strips either. Guest guest
another way i've found that helps is shaking my hand, downward. you could try that after the warm water and blotting your hand dry, then shake then put the band on. and still, don't forget to squeeze whichever finger or thumb you'll be poking. Guest guest
Thanks, cheryl. I decided to go and order some Prodigy test strips and they will have them in on Monday afternoon. I guess the doctor's office and insurance company are still working out their paperwork. I cannot believe I am the first person that this has come up with. At least I will have a supply of 50 of them on Monday. Tomorrow I will try some of these helpful hints from you gusy and hope I get a valid test. Guest guest
try running your hands under warm water or swinging them a bit to get the blood to flow.
