My son had been on valtrex 500mg/day and amantadine for 8 months. A little over

a month ago I stopped the amantadine and increased the valtrex to 375mg 3x/day.

How long should I try this before I move on to something else?

Have you pulled titers to see if they've changed at all? If they haven't, you might consider switching from Valtrex to either zovirax or famvir at this point. 8 months is definitely enough time to consider switching if the titers haven't changed. Another possible thing to consider talking to your doc about is upping to 500 mg 3x. Also, keep in mind that switching doesn't mean you wouldn't want to try switching back down the road. We've had to go back and forth on occasion. We've moved through all three. We're now back on Valtrex. So there's definitely more to it than meets the eye.

I gave the Valtrex five months before I dropped it. Once again….. Nonresponder.
