Kerry I knew something was going on with you. I e-mailed Joyce this AM to see if she had heard from you.I am so sorry this new "MAKE YA NUTS" thing is happening. I had that for about a month and a half when I was about 35. I had to close my eyes when anyone walked through the room.. So I do know that awful crummy dizzzzzzzzzzzy feeling. Take care, RING PHONE, maybe that would make your world a little calmer.. lol Joke. Kids SSSHHHHHH don't run...  another joke. I once heard Vertigo described as a bad Acid/LSD trip that keeps on

going for days. I've never experienced thankfully. I would definitely

advise seeing a good ENT as well, as if we all don't have enough

doctor's appointments. But he has the equipment to look deeper and see

more and the knowledge to be more sure of the cause. Anytime fluid is in

the ear for any period of time, I advise ENT.

Kerry,

I am so sorry that I missed your call. My two men can not take messages and relay them to me. I am fortunate if I get them at all, this one a day late. I came home one day and there was a written message that said, "Dr. Folz called, said to stop taking meds." ?????? I had to call the office back to find out which med. Aaaargh!

Yes, I agree that you are the one person who does not need to be sick. This sounds terrible. I have had so much nausea lately that I can commiserate to a degree.

I hope that the meds take care of the problem. So, so sorry.

Hi Kerry, something similar happened to be about ten years ago, only it was while I was driving. It seemed that my pickup was sliding across the highway instead going straight in its lane. And despite my efforts, it continued to do so. I managed to get into a driveway and turn off the engine.

I got out of the truck, sweating, the world swirling around me. People saw me and came over. One called an ambulance and before I knew it I was strapped in carted off to ER. There I went through all the checks to determine whether I was having a stroke. Eventually, the doctor said "vertigo" and sent me home.

I've never had a similar episode, but if I am in a situation where I don't have a horizon, I do get dizzy. Once, in the old Metropolian Opera House in New York, where I took my daughter to see the ballet, I had an unpleasant experience. We were in the dress circle, extremely high with a shaerp rake. When I got in my seat and looked out, it started. I sat through the whole performance with spinning head and my feet pressed firmly against the back of the seat in front of me. When the show was over, I waited until the theater was empty and crawled down backwards until I reched the main floor.

Even today, I cannot watch a movie or a TV show where the line of sight is without a horizon, e. g., a character on the open roof of a high-rise looking down at the street.

Hopefully, yours will taper off to something more manageable.

Oh Kerry,

I hope you are able to shake the vertigo. This is one thing I'm all too

familiar with. I had a bout with it about 10 years ago that was so severe it

kept me off work for 2 years! I could not move my head without becoming

violently ill. As long as I laid down and kept my head still, I was ok. They

tested heart, lungs, head, ears, nose, throat and never could resolve. I

finally went to rehab where they taught me to " live with it " . That's easier

said than done. But, as quickly as it came it went.

Now I only occasionally have problems primarily at night.

Good Luck with the antivert. It didn't help me.

Kerry, OMG...do I know what you are going

through!!!!

Call your primary, or ENT..ask to be referred to Physical Therapist who

SPECIALIZES

in Vertigo and Balance problems!!! Do it ASAP.

I'm telling you that after one session I was remarkably better!!!

It took 3 1/2 weeks of twice a week sessions to get really good.

I could actually drive myself for the last three sessions.

The first time I had Vertigo I had the same stuff...anti-vert, yaddah,

yaddah.!

However....

This time ...The ENT said that valium 2mg 3X daily is used to "turn

off the balance center"

it seems that our ears and vision get messed up more likely than not

from the mis-

alignment of the crystals in the inner ear!!!Not a virus or

inflammation at all!

The valium ( I only took it 2X a day because I was afraid to take it

before sleep

when it might make breathing more shallow) and the therapy and rest,

that's what worked.

I still do the balance exercises because it seems that I do have

balance issues that are

unrelated to the vertigo

Take it easy..hold onto the walls..rest..loads of fluids and make that

call.!

Yes, Z. I thought of you. I have never felt anything like

this ever. I had the room spin big time the initial time. The 2nd

out to my Dad. I convinced myself I would be fine and just take it

easy at the Y. I wanted to go workout because I hadn't been there

in a week and I'm going to have my best friend and her kids in town

next week. Also, I needed to do my monthly weigh-in for pre-

transplant home rehab. I got to the class to do Core strengthening

and just tried to totally take it easy. I even opted out of some

paired up activities w/ the medicine ball as they are dizzying. I

ended up w/ the sensation of falling from 10 feet up rather than the

10 inches up from the floor. I reached out to grab the floor and

actually yelled out for help. I knocked my oxygen off and had to

grab it w/ the other hand. As scary as this was I came home read

stuff online and thought well I'm not sweating and had no nausea

just the feeling of movement and spinning. It was so different from

feeling faint or dizzy or lightheaded or too little food or too much

coffee. I sat and took it easy for 2 hours and had my Dad drive me

to my hair appointment. I knew this was a bit crazy as I'd have to

move in ways that might bring this on, but figured as long as I took

it slow I'd be ok. We started w/ the brow wax (before the hair) and

when I sat up (even though I did it slow and explained the entire

morning beforehand to my friend and fellow Y member) the room

started to spin, then it got worse and worse no matter what.

Eventually, I was able to move to a sofa in a different room. I was

sweating like crazy. I had to call out for Val and was finally able

to call my Dad to come get me. I called my pulmo who is out of the

office til Tuesday. Called my primary who was able to get me in and

called to meet me at home to take me to the doc. My Dad

arrived and Val's mother who luckily came in went out to the car to

watch and distract the kids. I couldn't move, I was spinning and

pitching and sweating and finally they were trying to move me to the

car and I said oh, I'm gonna be sick and they sat me back down and

got me the trash bag. Doc said fluid in my right side/ear and virus

and some nasal spray and anti-vert (which is no longer prescription

it turns out just now) so it's Bonine or Dramamine. I'm to take it

easy, no sudden moves, everything at snails move after settling. I

had a tough night and tough day and besides it all I'm annoyed at

being this laid up. I told my doc and this is God having a

really, really good laugh... I said you take this type A girl, make

me short of breath, make me move slow, tie me to a leash and

I too have those "episodes" does anyone or is there anything for that? Or is that just

part of the deal? I have COPD and PF, I may be wrong but the dizziness sometimes resulted

in passing out, but I was only on the inhalers , its been awhile since Ive had a "heavy" episode

as you discribed. The feeling of dizziness is not as strong but still happens does the prednisone

help that? Seems thats when it changed for me..........lol but what do I know! Im just glad

they are short and gone with a Quickness! Anyone have easy bruising? Seems thats another one

that comes and goes bruises on my feet and legs and NO lol I dont hit the souce! Id remember

I THINK if i tripped or bumped myself.

Hi ,

The pred might be responsible for the bruising. You probably are knocking yourself, but not to the point that you notice, but the pred can thin the skin and the blood vessel walls. I have so many bruises on my legs at any one time that I don't like having bare legs, so it's trousers and maxi skirts for me. And then of course I have the photosensitivity which means I can't be exposed to much sunlight without getting an itchy rash, so my legs are also milk bottle white. The perfect background for a few bruises! Sometimes they are so bad looking that it's embarrassing. It looks like I've been beaten up, but the bruises don't actually hurt and I have no idea how I got them.

I've had the dizzyness occasionally. I didn't know what it was, and although I've had an episode that's lasted until after I've gone to sleep I just assumed that I'd got some sort of virus. I'll have to mention it next time I see my doc.

Can't tell you the last post I read, I think the last digest I read included Jon and Teri's update. I have scanned a couple times as I popped in. I posted a couple pretty pics I took on my birthday outing. Happy Birthday all my fellow Cancer's. I got online yesterday after suspecting I was suffering from Vertigo. Yes, Z. I thought of you. I have never felt anything like this ever. I had the room spin big time the initial time. The 2nd time the room pitched and I had to grab the sink and almost called out to my Dad. I convinced myself I would be fine and just take it easy at the Y. I wanted to go workout because I hadn't been there in a week and I'm going to have my best friend and her kids in town next week. Also, I needed to do my monthly weigh-in for pre-transplant home rehab. I got to the class to do Core strengthening and just tried to totally take it easy. I even opted out of some paired up activities w/ the medicine ball as they are dizzying. I ended up w/ the sensation of falling from 10 feet up rather than the 10 inches up from the floor. I reached out to grab the floor and actually yelled out for help. I knocked my oxygen off and had to grab it w/ the other hand. As scary as this was I came home read stuff online and thought well I'm not sweating and had no nausea just the feeling of movement and spinning. It was so different from feeling faint or dizzy or lightheaded or too little food or too much coffee. I sat and took it easy for 2 hours and had my Dad drive me to my hair appointment. I knew this was a bit crazy as I'd have to move in ways that might bring this on, but figured as long as I took it slow I'd be ok. We started w/ the brow wax (before the hair) and when I sat up (even though I did it slow and explained the entire morning beforehand to my friend and fellow Y member) the room started to spin, then it got worse and worse no matter what. Eventually, I was able to move to a sofa in a different room. I was sweating like crazy. I had to call out for Val and was finally able to call my Dad to come get me. I called my pulmo who is out of the office til Tuesday. Called my primary who was able to get me in and called to meet me at home to take me to the doc. My Dad arrived and Val's mother who luckily came in went out to the car to watch and distract the kids. I couldn't move, I was spinning and pitching and sweating and finally they were trying to move me to the car and I said oh, I'm gonna be sick and they sat me back down and got me the trash bag. Doc said fluid in my right side/ear and virus and some nasal spray and anti-vert (which is no longer prescription it turns out just now) so it's Bonine or Dramamine. I'm to take it easy, no sudden moves, everything at snails move after settling. I had a tough night and tough day and besides it all I'm annoyed at being this laid up. I told my doc and this is God having a really, really good laugh... I said you take this type A girl, make me short of breath, make me move slow, tie me to a leash and machines and if that isn't enough now I can't even make a quick movement of a single body part... don't you dare roll over, stand up or even look any direction fast. Well, the computer is even dizzying so I'm off.Kerry37 IPF '01 S. that's awful. i am sorry this is happening.

i think i have just a wee inkling of how bad you must

be feeling. i had an attack of vertigo about 7yrs ago

that last for about a week. the weird dizzyness made

me drop to the floor to hold on and the sensation of

being scared to move your head i remember well. i didnt

have nausea and sweats though. i was able to sit it out

and its never came back but i can't go down escalators.

i can still go up but in a shopping mall i have to find

old fashion stairs or a lift. i can't bear to step on

the first moving stair - i always feel i'm going to tumble

down.

i hope this thing disappears as quickly as it appeared.

mine happened right after my sister's funeral and in the

previous 8weeks i had been running myself ragged and had

broken sleep shifts over the 3wks before she died. i put

it down to that. maybe it was something to do with fluid

in the ear.

pf sucks.

Hi Kerry,

I Hope you're feeling a little better! I had very bad cases of Vertigo in 2007 (in Feb & May).

In January the Vertigo, would start as soon as I would lay on the bed on my back, 1) if I stared at the

ceiling, it would feel like it was spinning like a Disco ball. 2) If I would sit on the table to eat and if

anybody was sitting across me, I would ask them to move next to me or go to another room of the

house...because if they stayed were they were...it would be like I was seeing ten of them at the same

time. 3rd) It felt like a hang over and birds were flying around my head.

The 2nd episode in May, were I called the ambulance to take me to ER...everytime I tried to move or

walk around, I would literally fall on the floor. When paramedics arrived I told them don't move so much

because you're making me sick to my stomach.

Once I saw the ER dr gave me IV anti-nausea medications...then he performed some head movements and

told me that in our ears we have some crystals...and those crystals had gotten out of place and that's the reason

I was getting a bad case of Vertigo...

Once he put them in place...I was back to normal...I had to take it very easy for the following 24 hrs.

I'm feeling better and was able to do stuff around the house

yesterday without any problems. I'm still kinda laying low and

taking it easy and I haven't driven, but I haven't had any problems

since Sunday. Hopefully the fluid resolved itself. I know I don't

ever want that to happen again, it was very scary. I know I will

take it serious and not push it like that again thinking I can get

through it. That's no normal dizzyness and it could be so

dangerous! Jack, yours is exactly my concern, if it had hit while

driving I would've crashed for sure. This human body is a crazy

complicated thing!

Kerry,

I was going to call you, but I didn't want to disturb you when you were so sick. So, I am very glad to know that the vertigo is passing. You should be careful for awhile.
