Guest guest
Gita and others For anyone who clicked either Yes or No to being a friend and joining the site in Mayleen's email, do not be surprised if those on your contact lists now say they got spam from you. PAGII, the owner of the site that was in the email sent to me, is well known for harvesting emails like that. Its really sort of simple. When you click the button it sends your contact list to them. Understand it takes fairly sophisticated software to harvest emails from this board. I'm sure you've noticed that your full email address is never visible here. Even when you click here to respond with a private email to someone it does not show you their email address and it warns you that they will see yours. If you get spam and it gives you an option on it to unsubscribe by responding or pressing a button or sending an email, do not ever do so....repeat do not ever unsubscribe to spam. Most spammers use that simply to determine your email address is valid and to send more spam to you and even sell your address to others. Peggy - It goes around spam a bit as the sending address is an individual not a well known spam site. As to your response out thats outgoing so spam protection doesn't help you there. > > Dear All, > > It has been brought to my notice that a few mails have > been circulated using my name over the past couple of > days containing Spam or offensive material. > > I would like to disclaim them and request members to > ignore any such messages in future too. > > these unfortunate developments are regrettable. >
Guest guest
I was referring to on the web site itself. I do appreciate you pointing that out though as yahoo protects the web site against harvesting but then if one receives digests or individual emails they do get the full email address being used. The yahoo theory is to protect against non-members spidering the web-site but that one can trust or at least quickly identify members. The fact we have so few problems also reflects the diligence of the moderators in reviewing requests to join and in monitoring the activities of new members. One beauty of yahoo is its free. One problem of yahoo is its free and, therefore, requires no identifying information to set up an account on yahoo itself. > > > > > > Dear All, > > > > > > It has been brought to my notice that a few mails have > > > been circulated using my name over the past couple of > > > days containing Spam or offensive material. > > > > > > I would like to disclaim them and request members to > > > ignore any such messages in future too. > > > > > > these unfortunate developments are regrettable. > > > > > > > > > > >-----------------------------------------------------------------------\ - > > > > > >No virus found in this incoming message. > >Checked by AVG. > >Version: 8.0.101 / Virus Database: 270.4.2/1523 - Release Date: 6/28/2008 7:00 AM > > > > >
