Guest guest
Hi Meg, I think this is part of the process. I went through it, too. Remember that you don't always *have* to eat just the right thing. If you go through the list of textures and tastes, and still can't think of anything appealing, you can try a few things: 1) Wait until you're hungrier, and see if that helps 2) Have standbys on hand that you generally always like, and have a little snack of something to tide you over; time will often make a difference 3) Try different things, even if it's just a bite or two. Sometimes if you've been eating the same thing over and over for a while, you just need some new ideas to jump start your interest. Dealing with this seems to get easier as time goes on. I think you just learn to work with it. Sohni Hey All, Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on my most recent dilemma- not knowing what to eat! It's happened a couple of times recently that I was hungry and ready to eat something, but nothing really sounded that appealing. I think it might be partly that I've been eating (and greatly enjoying) essentially the same thing each day for a few weeks and have finally gotten tired of that, but haven't found anything else I really want. The end result of this has been either that I overeat in the process of searching for something that I want, or that I just am left with a vague sense of being unsatisfied after I eat. Though I don't know, maybe feeling unsatisfied is an emotional reaction to something else in my life. Has anyone else experienced this? Guest guest
Meg,I think someone else may have said this too, that waiting until you are a little bit hungrier might help. It's possible that what you want isn't in your house. Also, it could be that you are actually thirsty and not hungry? IE says it takes time to really understand what hunger feels like, so maybe give it more time.-KateHey All,Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on my most recent dilemma- not knowing what to eat! Guest guest
Hi Meg! I had that problem as well. It's hard to figure out, but I made a point of it to start learning/cooking new recipes, eating foods I've never tried, and breaking out of eating habits. Anything that my family say they want from a restaurant, I go out and buy the ingredients then try to make it myself (but better). It has really opened doors for me and let me realize that the best food experiences happen when YOU put the effort and thought into creating the meal. Intuitive eating has turned me into quite the food snob (I mean, I used to eat Cheetos off the floor)! I love that my daily eating experience is dynamic and fulfilling. It makes it hard to get bored. - > > Hey All, > > Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on my most recent dilemma- not knowing what to eat! Guest guest
Hey Meg, YES I have definitely experienced this: nothing sounding good and then either binging or feeling unsatisfied after the meal. My interpretation was that my disinterest in food was a good sign that food was becoming less important in my life, and my decision to binge was fighting to keep my old friend (excess food) relevant. If I feel unsatisfied after the meal I interpret that as I wanted food to do more for me than it actually did. I wanted emotional comfort, taste orgasms, atmosphere, endorphins, romance, fireworks, excitement, parades--and all I got was this lousy meal. I find that if I let myself get a little hungrier, I eventually find something that sounds good. A lot of times my mind will say, " Ok, I'm ready to eat, " just because it's been a standard X amount of hours since my last meal and I'm " allowed " to eat and still maintain food sanity; and then I get excited--because food is fun! But even though my mind is ready and geared up to eat, and I could eat because i'm moderately hungry, my own physical body prefers hunger a couple shades stronger before it lets me know what I'm craving.
