Reflux can be yeast related. Another thing that sometimes causes reflux is

inadequate stomach acid. You can try giving apple cider vinegar to see if it

eliminates it. If it does, he needs more acid to help digest the food.

Juicing is great for that. I agree with Suzanne, it could be due to -- too

little HCL (hydro-cloric acid). I have always said, if your child eats a

carrot, and it comes out like a carrot -- they aren't digesting their food

properly. (Before I started biomed, I had asked my regular Ped about it, and

she was like, " sometimes that is just what happens. " -- no, it doesn't when your

child is digesting their food propery. It's NOT normal...(I keep having to

remind myself what people consider 'normal' today, really didn't become the norm

until a lot of people reported the same things...anyway..

Zinc was helpful in resolving that issue for myself, along with juicing. Also,

having good micro-flora in the gut also digests food. I tend to think that

reflux is a multi stage problem. (And if they aren't digesting their food, then

they aren't getting the nutrients they need..)

So that being said, Juicing might help you a great deal. Also, using a

supplement that is bio-available like the zinc monomethionine. As well as,

small meals, 5 times a day. (Helps when there isn't enough HCL) -- my kids eat

one large meal (breakfast) and then graze the rest of the day.

Food combining also helps - like eating a little protein, with a little carb and

a little fiber each time. It slows down the process of breaking it down,

without spikes in blood sugar levels, so your child doesn't devour his food

because he's starving. I served my kids meals on small plates so it wouldn't

make me feel like they weren't eating enough. I also kept a food diary so that

I could make sure they were eating/drinking enough calories for their size/body

weight to ensure growing needs as well.

I usually serve a large (6-8oz) juicer drink before breakfast. This helps

breakdown breakfast. In the afternoon, I do another juicer drink and this helps

with the grazing meals, as well as dinner. Great things to add to your juicer

drink is pineapple, because it got natural digestive enzymes in it...I also use

lemon, pear and apple (golden del) for the same purpose. Greens like kale,

cabbage, and zuchinni also have great enzymes in them to bust up food too.

Plus, it helps create the HCL your body needs.

:) laura

PS. I also juice for my 7 month old, WOW, had I only known this when Jimmy and

Maddie were young..what a difference!

Hey Tunde...

When I started juicing. I thought of things my kid would eat. I started out

with Pineapple, Pears, Apples, Carrots, Celery...etc.

My kids wouldn't drink the juicer drink - because of the consistency. Some kids

don't have that issue. But what I did was I took a tablespoon of 'juicer drink'

and put it in his favorite juice, until he took a full juicer drink. It took

about a month of consistently doing this.

There are some juicing websites out there, but what I have found is that if you

use organic, fresh, vegetables -- and pick something sweet like an apple, pear

or pineapple (grapes, if it starts to look like it's going to be bad) -- then

you can create your own. I started with the book I had gotten with my juicer.

(Jack LaLanne) --and I experimented with lots of different fruits, vegetables,

and herbs (like ginger, cilantro, and parsley)

I used a lot of kale as it's got a lot of great things in it. Apples are sweet

and very good, so are pears.

It's a great thing, because you can be creative. I just started juicing

zucchini and my kids loved it too. They get mostly vegetables now, but they did

not at first, sometimes you have to 'sell' it, before they take the juice and

not question it..

:) laura

If I find a really good website, I'll post it.

Tunde,

Don't you dare feel bad! You are doing everything you can and you're doing a great job! You were smart to start with the gut, especially if he had symptoms. Sometimes we can give supplements til we're blue in the face, but if the gut isn't in a postion to digest, absorb and utilize them, it's a complete waste of time, energy, and moeny. So whenever its possible to get the gut cleaned up, it's a great thing. and I'm glad to hear you're having such good success. Sometimes, it takes people years and years. It takes a while to learn about all the options, research them and learn what they all entail. The information overload is overwhelming at first but you will quickly get a handle on things. Every treatment is not for everybody - everybody has a different experience and a different set of circumstances. Keep reading and keep asking questions, listen to your "momma gut" and you will

be led to where you should head next. Feeling bad is NOT an option...you will be far too busy for that! ; )

thank you for your reply laura. i am a bit lost about so many things. ever since i joined this group i feel so bad not doing all the things that you guys are doing for my son. i always put a lot of importance on his gut and i think it is finally almost under controll, so much better than it was. Slowly i am learning all these things from you guys and starting to apply it as well. So thank you so much for your reply, and thank you all in this group for all that i had learned or will be learning from you allTunde

Seriously Tunde!

If there is one thing I have found, is that all of this is a lot of work...it's

a full time job - along with actual parenting!

We all have strategies to incorporate things we see that work. When something

starts working, there usually an incentive to keep up with it...it's daunting

all of this information, and the supplements and when to give, what to eat --

GAHHH!

I juice daily (twice daily) because I see the benefit to it. Maddie's allergies

are gone, and Jimmy is very calm and can sit! 6 months ago, he used to run

around while eating. People were like " aren't you afraid he's going to choke? "

and I laughed (probably totally inappropriately!) and said " well, that'll slow

him down! " -- I mean, really, you are one person, cut yourself some slack.

And you know, laugh. See the good and funny for what it is. I remember at the

beginning when Jimmy melted down in our local grocery store (and I never wanted

to go back) -- you could see the tears welling up in my eyes, and this really

great Mom came over and said, " you need a hug. " and I probably hugged her too

long. I needed it. She told me, " I lost my son twice at toys r us, you didn't

do that, so you're a better Mom than me. " It made me laugh.

THis is really tough stuff we are doing. You're the Mom, you know what is best

to start with. We are all here just chit chattin' about what worked the best

for us. Recycling and polishing up our information. I wouldn't have made it

without this board and all the help I have received.

Hang in there... laura :)

Thank you for this nice email. This was the " hug " i needed today, the encouragement the push to go on.It gets to be difficult at times, but this group had given me  so much already.I would like to know about what were you juicing for your daughter. My son is allergic to everything under the son. I often tell people he may need to be in a bubble. it is sad how much he suffers and I really want to take him off the claritin, singular and steroids. I feel it is way too much chemicals in his little body.

If you do  not mind sharing some of your recipes please let me know, so I can start helping him in a much better way.Again, thank you so much. God bless you and your wonderful familyTunde

:Sounds like you just described my son. But my son there was a point he stopped eating (except junk). We ended up doing an endoscopy and they did confirm the reflux but the worst part is that it had gone on for so long that he had ulcers all down his esophagus. Doctors ended up giving him a high dose of Prevacid which healed the ulcers. My son was constantly congested and apparently it was a cause of the bacteria that lived in the ulcers. In my opinion get it professionally checked to avoid further damage to the immune system. T.
