Medicare & glasses

Hi Group, Just a little info. I had my first cataract removed in Oct. then the left in June. Well I went for my last exam and will need glasses not strong but glasses anyhow. My Bifocals will be 250 for reading. The interesting part is MediCare will pay 75. for them and the lady in the shop said we needed to pay up front and we would get a ck. for 200.00 back from the Gov. Well she only wanted 345.00. I just laughed and said no thank you and started to leave. She said she wasn't supposed to tell anyone this but there is a shop on Silver Springs Blvd. that will accept Medicare.

When we go there the Lady was just so helpful, nice AND told us Medicare will pay for the frames and the lense

AND said I should get two pair because I had surgery in Oct too. I get two pair. One Sun glasses and a nice light pair. All I pay for is 75. for anti glare. I am so excited.

I just can not believe how we were almost ripped off.

So all this story to let y'all know toinvestigatebefore you buy. So I now will be able to throw away all these 10.00 glasses.

Have a great week all. My son has been here for a few days. so I'm back. Missed everyone. I'll catch up..

Love and Prayers, Peggy

Peggy,

This may show my ignorance, I did not know Medicare pays for glasses. Is this only if you had to have cataract surgery? Just wondering....

Toodles!

Also says importance of calling all provider types in advance and

knowing who will accept medicare assignment. Medicare's policy is of

course not to cover vision in general but to pay for the first pair of

glasses required after and as a result of cataract surgery.

I've only run across one of my potential health providers so far who

wouldn't accept medicare assignment and said to pay them and then submit

and recover what you could on your own. This was my ENT. Well, one

appointment only and I guess I could have done that. However, after

going to that office for 11 years although my surgeries were by a doctor

no longer with them and just in general seeing their recent changes and

their attitude toward this I decided it was time for a change. I got an

appointment with another doctor in a better general office with multiple

professionals. Not only have I had no problem with medicare assignment

but my treatment and service in general has been more professional. Yes,

I could have paid the old doctor but many who switch to medicare

couldn't have afforded to and I just don't need a doctor who will turn

his back on long term patients like that.
