Guest guest
Hi Emmanuelle! Welcome to the group. Based on what you've written about challenges with " fat " thoughts, I'd highly, highly recommend getting access to or purchasing the book " When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies [WWSHTB] " by Jane Hirschmann and Carol Munter. This book is phenomenal. They specifically address issues related to " fat " thoughts and concerns and help you begin to think about and incorporate ways to care for yourself in this book. My two references for intuitive eating are Intuitive Eating (IE) by Tribole & Resch and this book. I'm sure that this work of transforming your relationship with your body and with food will be of tremendous value for you and your daughter. I have never been into food restriction (i.e., dieting) because I had used food as my primary coping mechanism for most of my life until IE. So, I don't have a long history with dieting. I sometimes feel like we take our thoughts too seriously. They're just thoughts. I like the meditation inspired practice of recognizing a thought and letting it go/pass through...not giving it energy. The more you practice, the less power the thought has and tends to wane over time. Like " Ok, yeah I'm feeling fat, so what?. Now I'm going to go about my day. " The WWSHTB book addresses the different physical, psychological, and cultural reasons why people feel " fat " . I've been practicing intuitive eating for about 2.5 years. It's been an amazing journey for me, especially with the support of this group. For me, IE is a life-long journey now that makes sense like nothing else does. Eat when you're hungry, stop when your full, respect your body, cope with emotions without using food, etc. I call it " uncommon commonsense " . So, I " practice " IE everyday because it represents the best vision of well-being that I want to experience in my life. > > I have millions of questions but I am going t stop here for today. > I have been following IE now for a couple of days but I have to be honest, it is difficult for me. I find it easy to diet, but that's probably because I've been told what to eat (and rebelling against it) all my life! > > Thank you in advance for your comments/recommendations. > > Have a great day! > Emmanuelle >
Guest guest
I have been " lurking " for a few days and now am ready to jump in. I love the compassionate, caring and intelligent discussions here. I am working on listening to my hunger but right now all it says is feed me chocolate cake. Practice, practice, practice. Thank you all.
