I just had a new ct scan done. the result shows the ISD as well as a 7

mm calcium nodule in the left lung. Ok anoyone have idea what the hell

this thing is. I am being schedule for another biopsy. Just looking for

info. the internet says 60 % of these things are begine but is based on

age and other factors.

A CT that I had in January showed that I've got one of those nodules,

as well. It just happens to be on one of my scars. My pulmonary doctor

said it's nothing for me to worry about. I hope it's the same for

you. Good luck.

Did they refer you to an oncologist? If so, what did he say? Generally thats who would give you the information on which to base the decision of whether to have a biopsy or not. Here's what I know though and it would generally lead to a biopsy. It's scary but the size of it would indicate even if it were cancerous the odds are very favorable. Having been through a tumor on my colon a few years ago and had it removed and found to be pre-cancerous (but not cancer) I do have an understanding of how it all feels sitting there wondering. But, again, by the size I'd feel as good as one can about it, since yours is less than the 1 cm.

A pulmonary nodule is a small, roundish growth on the lung—sometimes called a spot on the lung—that is easy to find and hard to diagnose. Pulmonary nodules turn up in about one of every 500 chest x-rays. But because they can be a form of early-stage cancer, it's important to distinguish a benign nodule from a cancerous nodule as early as possible. Therefore, doctors approach every pulmonary nodule as cancerous until they can prove otherwise.

If a spot on the lung has a diameter of three centimeters or less, it's called a nodule. If it's bigger than that, it's called a mass and undergoes a different evaluation process. About 40 percent of pulmonary nodules turn out to be cancerous. Half of all patients treated for a cancerous pulmonary nodule live at least five years past the diagnosis. But if the nodule is one centimeter across or smaller, survival after five years rises to 80 percent. That's why early detection is critical.

I would think an oncologist would have a good ability to distinguish the

nodules that are scars from the true calcium nodules.

Oh there was another consideration in my oncologist's determination and

it was if I did have lymphoma and considering my UIP would the lymphoma

develop within the lifetime afforded by the UIP as well as the

consequences of chemo.
