Re: Too restrictive?

I often eat standing up. I have two young kids, and that's just my

reality right now. But, typically, I don't overeat when I do this,

I am more just fueling so I can keep up with them. And, if I want

to sit down, I do.

Anyway, I guess what I want to say is, it wouldn't work for my life

right now to say that I can only eat when I am sitting. And that

would feel restrictive, which would likely backfire.

BUT, it also is not an area that I need to work on, knowing when I

am full. I'm fairly clear about when I am full. So standing when

eating isn't a problem for me. If the area I personally needed to

work on was mindfulness and knowing when I was full, then sitting

down could be very important. (Stopping when I know I am full, now

that's a separate issue!)

So, maybe a couple questions to ask yourself . . .

1. Do you find yourself overeating when you are grazing in the

kitchen? If so, it may help to practice sitting down when eating.

2. Does the thought of having to sit down every time you eat make

you want to eat more? Then maybe that's not a rule you need to put

on yourself right now.

Another idea is you could just try, for a day or a half day or just

one snack to sit down and see how it feels. You're not committing

to it for life, just try it and see what your mind and body are

telling you about it.

In general, for me, anytime I tell myself "only" or "always" it

feels restrictive and backfires.

I have a horrible habit of eating/grazing in the kitchen.

Is it too restrictive of me to say that I should only eat

when I put something on a plate and am sitting down at a

table? I never had like a "family time" meal so I never

really learned eating etiquete. I dont know if this is a

bad idea though. Any thoughts/ideas?
