Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I have been doing this " support-buddy " system for 2 months with IE members, and I have found it to be very helpful. I am looking for a buddy for August. Are you interested? It requires a daily email " check-in " and setting weekly goals. Here are the guidelines (below). The most important part: is to commit for doing this a whole month. I am looking for someone who is enthusiastic about pursuing the IE journey, and is willing to explore day to day challenges of being (both emotionally and physically). If you are interested in doing this for August, please post an email to the group and say a little bit about yourself. (There may be other people reading this who are looking for a buddy too.) Here are the guidelines. Thanks so much!-Kate Support Buddy Guidelines -On Sunday night, both buddies email their goals for the week. You can pick the same goal to do everyday, or a mixture of goals, but you should plan to do at least 1 thing a day. A sample of goals might be: Go on a walk, drink 8 glasses of water, read my IE book for 20 minutes, eat a meal without distractions. -Every evening (or the following morning) you email each other and tell what happened, even if it is " I didn't do my goal and I wonder why " . The purpose is to use the goal as a doorway for exploration into IE. As a buddy, your role is not to judge or pressure your buddy into " doing " the goal. There is no right or wrong. The purpose is to support them, empathize with daily challenges, offer any tips and celebrate successes (no matter how small). -The main thing is to pick goals you look forward to, and set them low enough that you know you can do them. Try to avoid negative goals (ex: I won't binge), but rather pick positive goals or " I will " goals, such as " I will take a walk and focus on the beautiful things around me " (instead of feeling like I have to " exercise " ). -The most important thing is to make a solid commitment to your buddy that you will do this for one month, Monday through Friday (and send your goal list on Sundays). It's not just a commitment to your buddy, but also a commitment to yourself. Kate
Guest guest
Hi Kate, I would be interested in doing this. I've been thinking lately that I need to make more of a commitment to IE. Since I began IE last fall, I've been reading books about the process and sometimes writing journal entries, but I feel as if I've been hesitant to really concentrate on it, instead enjoying the fact of not dieting. As a result, my work on IE has really been in the background a bit, which has been good for a number of reasons but now I'd like to try to work on it consciously a bit more. About me apart from IE: I'm 26, have had eating issues since I can remember. I was really overweight up through the beginning of college but lost the majority of that weight in college. Since then I've been on tons of mini-diets, none of which has really worked. I'm currently living in Wisconsin, where I've been since I got back from two years in Africa with the Peace Corps last October. Currently work with a nonprofit here that does refugee resettlement, though I was offered a job in DC a couple of weeks ago and will hopefully be moving out there in the next month or so. That's it for now. If you would like to be support buddies, you can email me at mpmunroe at gmail.com.
