Think again. , Ph.D., associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences at Northeastern University in Boston, has developed a tattoo that can monitor your blood sugar without constant needle pricks-a huge advancement for the 26 million Americans with diabetes. The miniature tattoo-only a few millimeters in size-is made of nano-sensors: tiny polymer beads containing a yellow-orange dye that lights up when glucose levels are high and darkens as glucose levels drop. While traditional tattoos permanently stain the deeper layers of the skin, the diabetes tattoo is applied to more superficial skin layers, so its application is less painful and it wears off over time. " The plan is to have tattoos applied once a week, " says . Patients will use a handheld device to scan the tattoo several times a day for color changes to guide their insulin use. 's team has tracked glucose levels in tattooed mice with diabetes, confirming these results with blood tests they took at the same time. If upcoming clinical trials in humans pan out, the tattoos could be on the market in a decade. __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 6546 (20111015) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com

Guest guest
Well, if this ever does get passed by the FDA for humans, then they will have to make the remote thing that reads the colors accessible! I am somewhat cynical about it ever getting to that point. Ten years is a long way off. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of sal pitts Sent: Monday, October 17, 2011 6:26 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: FW: Future Cures well thats all verry good but how are you ment to know wen to increase or decrease your insulin if you have to look at the colour if you can't see? Guest guest
That is a very very good question. I'm not totally blind but I do have trouble with colors. that could really be a drawback. ________________________________ To: blind-diabetics Sent: Monday, October 17, 2011 8:26 AM Subject: Re: FW: Future Cures  well thats all verry good but how are you ment to know wen to increase or decrease your insulin if you have to look at the colour if you can't see?
