Guest guest
Hi! We stayed at Port Orleans, Riverside last November. My son is GFCF. We were on the dining plan. We were able to keep my son on the diet while we were there. I brought food substitutes with us and we rented a car in case we needed to go to the store. The cafeteria staff were helpful. We let them know that was on the diet and the chef on duty gave us food options. If you make a reservation at a sit down restaurant let them know about the diet when you make your reservation. Also let them know when you arrive at the restaurant. Everyone was helpful. Have a great time. Do you know about the red card? Guest guest
Hi Margaret, I've been to Disneyworld twice with my 2 autistic sons. The last stay was at PO Riverside. It's a great resort. You may know this, but I'll pass it along anyway. As soon as you go into your first park, go to Guest Services, which will be very close to the entrance. Tell the cast member that your child has autism and he can't wait in lines. You don't need anything from a doctor, your word will do. They'll issue you a pass that will allow your child and a party of up to 6 to enter the rides through the handicapped entrance. So, virtually no waiting. Now, for the diet. If you are dining in any of the restaurants, when you make your reservations, let the clerk know your child has a special diet. The chef will meet you when you get to the restaurant and show you what is okay for your child to eat at their restaurant. If they don't have something for your child, they'll make something especially for him. PO Riverside has an awesome food court with many choices, from pasta to sandwiches, hamburgers, roast beef and turkey dinners, etc, etc. I'm not totally familiar with the SCD diet, but you should call the resort and speak to the chef there and I'm sure they can help you find, or make for your son, things that are safe for him to eat. Disney is really awesome when it comes to accomodating special needs. I don't think the rooms have microwaves at the resort. I think access means being able to use the microwaves in the food court. We bought a small one and had it in our room. I may be wrong, so again check with the resort. Also, there are a few grocery stores that will deliver to the hotels. Check allearsnet.com (I think that's right) and they should have info on who will deliver. In addition to my microwave, I took a cheap toaster and coffee maker and we did fine. Two more quick pointers specifically about PO Riverside. I brought a twin size blow up bed and put it in the vanity area of the room for my son, since he went to bed earlier than we did. The area's curtained off, so it was perfect. Also, you can get life vests for the kids to swim in for free. Just go to the boat dock and you'll need your room key. They'll sign them out to you for the remainder of your stay. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
