Guest guest
HI, All. I've been aware of how much I rely on telling myself new messages and I wanted to invite you all to share the things you've learned to say to yourself that help you on your IE journey. These are things I have to say to myself throughout my day to combat the old-think of the diet head as it keeps coming up. I'm sure we share many of the same ones, but perhaps we also have some that we've devised creatively that could be useful to each other. These are some of the things I keep repeating to myself: - You can always have more if you want it. - The point of eating more slowly is NOT to eat less, it's to have more satisfaction! - The point of waiting until you're hungry is NOT to eat less, it's to have more satisfaction. - My weight is not my business or anyone else's business. It is what it is. All I can do is be aware of how I'm eating this meal at this moment. (this is something I need to repeat to myself whether I'm upset that I feel I've gained weight or elated that I may have lost weight) - My weight is not relevant to my happiness. Even if I can't get rid of my obsession to be thin, I can remind myself that I've been miserable when thin and happy even at my fattest. - Yes, you're eating now and you're not hungry but it's okay if that's the best you can do, just sit down and enjoy it. Let it really comfort you. You'll get better over time at handling moments like this. - You are so much happier now than when you were constantly dieting and binging. Don't forget what a difference IE has made when you think it's not "working". - Keep in mind all the positive things that are changing (when I feel I'm stuck or failing), notice the fact that you didn't feel the need to eat after that argument, or you actually chose to have something other than ice cream because ice cream wasn't that exciting, or you didn't finish what was on your plate when you got full. - You may have just overeaten, but you will NOT try to eat less later. The very next time you get hungry you will feed yourself exactly what you want, as much as you need to be satisfied. - You can always have more if you want it. - You can always have more if you want it. - You can always have more if you want it. I'd love to hear from the rest of you. April
Guest guest
When my clock says it's mealtime, I have to remember to check and say: Oh, I'm not actually hungry right now. I can eat that later when I'm hungry. (sometimes I still find myself wanting to eat by the clock - you know the diet thing of 3 meals plus 2 snacks a day - so when I find myself in the kitchen at a particular TIME, I just have to tell myself i'll eat whatever I was grabbing for when I'm actually hungry - which I know will be soon, but not just yet.) Guest guest
Some of my own IE sayings are - * IE is not about weight, its about WAIT - for (body) hunger, satisfaction and INternal directions. * When I find myself non-IE eating I tell myself " this too will pass " . On a lighter side (humor works best for me), I find that whatever 'works' for me tends to have a short shelf life for my attention span. I figured that if I wrote myself suggestion notes, I would need to rig up a hat with a little stick hanging out in front of my eyes for dangling the note from. Only that way would I be able to keep the suggestion 'in mind'! I also envisioned a placemat with EAT SLOWLY!, Savor, Got Satisfaction? Are you at 5 (satisfaction scale) yet? written on it for my dinner place setting. But like how I treated dieting in my life, IGNORING all these 'good ideas' is a short trip, detour really, from my IE journey which is a FREE roaming jaunt. :-) :-) Krazy Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > HI, All. > I've been aware of how much I rely on telling myself new messages and I > wanted to invite you all to share the things you've learned to say to > yourself that help you on your IE journey. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing these great ideas. I'm going to use some of them. I love that it's about the WAIT, Katcha! And "so what?" is a great quick answer in those moments when my body size demons start shouting. Thanks, Abby. I realized this morning how many times I also have to keep telling myself: "This is a long process. Take the long view." I keep getting impatient to be a highly skilled intuitive eater with all the rewards that come from that. But it took me 62 years to get here, so it might actually take a bit of time to fix. April M. Guest guest
Yes, patience is key! When I first started IMing I was cocky, thought I had it all figured out and that I could skip ahead to the end and be " fixed. " And I was SO impatient to get there and just feel " normal. " And while I sometimes get discouraged and feel so broken, as I describe in my intro post, if I could go back in time I might tell myself to actually listen to the book and give in and take time with each step. But maybe I really don't think I'd change anything, because I've learned so much about myself, and about life too, that I don't think I'd want to trade that. This is truly a journey, where the destination is not so important. Thanks for sharing these great ideas. I'm going to use some of them. I love that it's about the WAIT, Katcha! And " so what?
