Guest guest
Hi, I joined the group 2 weeks ago. Writing about my feelings around food already helped me to be in a better place. couple of days ago, I shared my feelings around food on weekends and guess what? already today I am in a better place around food. I am trying NOT control what I am eating. I am trying to listen to my body. I am trying to feel my body and respect it when I am hungry and NOT to be in my head. Since, I am used to dieting, and constantly analyzing what is low/high calorie food , I forgot how to feel what my body really wants and NOT what food my head says to pick. Subject: do you mostly have peace and health :-)To: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Saturday, April 30, 2011, 6:20 AM Or in other words, I could really use to hear from some people for whom IE is mostly working! My personal goals are to be at peace with food, to not over-think about food, to eat food that doesn't make me extra tired, and to be at a weight that allows me to joyfully hike, dance, etc. without feeling that extra weight is hampering me (I know that last one will bother some people but it's my truth so feels important to say, plus I don't think it's counter to what the IE authors of books talk about).I'm pretty new here, and so far mostly hear a lot of people struggling about their food or food behaviors. I know it's important for there to be a place to share our struggles. I also understand that it would be unrealistic to think that any approach is going to lead to 100% accomplishment of my goals all of the time. But at the same time, this only makes sense to me if I know there are people out there for whom this is at least working most of the time. I'm ok with knowing it'll take some time to get there - and that it won't be a straight path - as long as I know there are folks out there who after whatever period of time, do have this kind of peace and health most of the time.If you feel you do, can you please share? Thanks! Guest guest
Thank you, Katcha, for taking the time to share your experience and thoughts. I'm bumbling along a little, so will just keep listening to everyone. Right now I'm feeling that both my body and mind appreciate some loving structure (not a diet, more like I'll have three meals and 2 snacks, but I can have whatever I want) and I might be deciding to give it that, merging it with IE - having them at times I'm hungry, stopping when I'm satisfied, trying to become willing to eat without distractions. > > > > Or in other words, I could really use to hear from some people for whom IE is mostly working! > > > > My personal goals are to be at peace with food, to not over-think about food, to eat food that doesn't make me extra tired, and to be at a weight that allows me to joyfully hike, dance, etc. without feeling that extra weight is hampering me (I know that last one will bother some people but it's my truth so feels important to say, plus I don't think it's counter to what the IE authors of books talk about). > > > > I'm pretty new here, and so far mostly hear a lot of people struggling about their food or food behaviors. > > > > I know it's important for there to be a place to share our struggles. Guest guest
It would be nice to hear more success stories, even the little steps. Sandy Hi , I have only been doing IE for about 4 months now, and already peace is the term I use for my new way of eating. I don't get it right every meal, but I find more days than not I am listening to my body, really enjoying food (without guilt) for the first time in my life, stopping when I am satisfied, feeling great after meals because I am not overstuffed or still hungry, having a great time experimenting with new foods, and most importantly feeling like I am no longer at war with food and with my body. I was already in the habit of exercising when I started IE, but the best thing I can say about that is to start where you are and find movement that makes you feel joyful where you are. If you aren't at the point where hiking is comfortable now, you might still enjoy a gentle walk and focus on the joy of movement (the breeze on your face, the spring plants in bloom, etc.). In time, I believe you will find yourself dancing and hiking both from increased strength and from improved health. One thing I often remember about this group is that is natural for people to come here when they are beginning and learning and struggling, and just as natural to not visit as much once IE becomes a way of life. I think many of the " success stories " are probably not around posting regularly because as they have gotten the hang of IE, they need the support less and visit the group less and less over time. And although I believe it is a sign of success for people to outgrow this group to some degree, it does mean that a lot of the traffic in this group is from people in the beginning stages who tend to post more about questions, fears and perceived failures. Best of luck with the process! -Liz > > Or in other words, I could really use to hear from some people for whom IE is mostly working! Guest guest
Absolutely agree Liz, this group is mostly active with newbies who are finding their way. And I can vouch for feeling that one 'outgrows' this group after a while. Actually it seems that most move onto other issues beyond food and rules, like body image etc. That doesn't mean that those issues can't and won't be posted about here, just not as often as the beginning basics like stopping at full and listening to your own body for which food it wants. Guest guest
I can share a semi-positive steps: This Monday was the first Monday in a long time that I came to work NOT feeling sick from overeating and also hating my body. What did I do differently? 1. I noticed last 5 months, around wed. or Thurs. I start worying about How am I going to control the weekend So I dont overeat. Just thinking and worying about weekend, I overate every weekend . this week, I decided NOT to worry about it, allow myself to eat 3 meals per day. Eat desert IF I want to, be gentle and kind with my self. When I did not overeat on Sat. I was so surprised. I kept asking myself, is it possible this IE stuff really works. 2. Then on Sunday, I had a hard time to be intuitive , natural way was to control so I lose weight, I told myself JUST BE KIND to yourself, then Sunday also I did not overeat. 3.I also learned, If i look at my body and I judge my self, then my diet mentality kicks in followed by overeating. 4. I learned I have a tendency to look at my stomach and then want to have a strict diet. this behavior also triggers my diet mentality I just thought to share my challenge and progress Hi ,I have only been doing IE for about 4 months now, and already peace is the term I use for my new way of eating.
