Hey everyone,

Can I vent a bit? I

am so freaking annoyed. At work (I work at a large private University) and HR

partnered with this “Naturally Slim†program (normally $500 to participate) but

now it’s free cause they need guinea pigs and it’s a new program. Everyone has

hopped in this like it’s a life boat and they were treading water and people

are dropping big, like one guy I know 30 pounds in 4 months and others.

So everyone is, “OOHHH it’s WORKING… I’m gonna sign me UP.†And

why do I even try? I say:

What studies has this program undergone for efficacy? What

is the success rate over 5 years?

*crickets chirping*

I say: “Anyone can drop weight if they are dieting… how is

this different?â€

They say, “They teach you HOW to eat… not like a regular

diet.â€

Hands clenching, I say, “Does anyone know anyone who was on

this program and has kept the weight off even one year? Two?â€

*pin drop*

I say, “Do you know you can wreck your metabolism after

repeated attempts at dieting, gaining it all back and then some?â€

*lips pursing*

I say, “Knowing what I know… I would not want to risk my

already beleaguered system on an untested and unknown diet program… only to

gain all the weight back and then some.â€

Response? “Well, my friend who is a doctor says, if you want

to lose weight stop putting things in here (pointing to mouth)†(she is thin, of course no one who has ever had a weight problem would ever be that flippant and ignorant and crude)

I sputter at the ignorance of it all. The lemming-ness of it

all.

Can’t you SEE that this is just another like all the rest?

Where is the objectivity? Where is the discerning judgment?!?! As soon as

people see/hear “lose weight†it’s like they become freaking zombies, “moan….get

skinny….. moannnnnnnâ€

I tried to give my perspective and they looked at me either

like I have ants crawling all over my face OR smirked cause I’m a big girl, “obviously

in denialâ€.

Sheeple… SHEEEPPLE baaaa baaaa baaa

Ok.. I’m done. Thanks for listening.

Great vent! Another factor people overlook is how much is GAINED by the DIET

INDUSTRY every time it hooks a sheeple to it. Like the old saying that its

cheaper to hirer a hit man than a lawyer, the diet industry has invested just

enough money in 'research' to 'prove' what it wants to be 'known' (as gospel).

Doctors are science oriented so provide 'scientific' input and they will add it

to their knowledge base. Sadly way too much of medical help is 'formula' based.

Symptom A treated by medication X or procedure Y. What the formula food -

exercise = weight does not factor in is the human input of WHY food is eaten.

That is what IE addresses. I'm pretty much put off by the medical profession of

late. I also remember what a grand gal of 100 years told be as a 'secret' to her

long life - avoid doctors.
