I don't know if this will help, but something I've learned about myself is that if I eat and there is no protein in the snack/meal, there is a 90% chance I'll be hungry about 30 minutes later. So it's possible that you might need to look not just at how much you are eating (which it sounds like you've done) but what you are eating...just a little bit. Not saying you have to eat something you don't like. Just maybe include something that will help you not be hungry all the time.

I've also read that some people do better with more fiber, but I don't find it helps me that much, perhaps because I already eat a fair amount of fiber.

Now I know that intuitive eating works in a different way for everyone and everyone finds what they are comfortable with but when I just eat until I am satisfied (a low 6 on the Intuitive eating's proposed 10 pt hunger scale) I sometimes get hungry a hour or even 30 min later. I sometimes pick and never really have real meals. In a lot of ways this is annoying to me and certaintly interferes with my schedule (as I either have class or work and cannot eat all the time) and then also my family often have a hard time understanding my eating habits. Has anyone tried an "eating schedule" that does not feel like an externally imposed plan?

Sometimes scheduling is a problem for me too.  Life seems to get in the way as it were, but I just do the best I can and don't beat myself up about it.  I too often have trouble deciding when I am hungry, full and how hungry or full/satisfied.  Sometimes when I think I am hungry I try distraction for a while, or drink water to see if it really is hunger I am experiencing.  And if I find I really am hungry, I eat.  Often I find I am eating emotionally out of stress or boredom or frustration or many other emotional reasons. Maybe for you a low 6 is not really enough.  What about a 7? I also have found that what I eat makes a big difference.   And for me I must have a protein in the mix with a carb especially and some fat(preferably a healthy one). I can eat a few full fat cheese cubes or a few nuts like walnuts or almonds and my appetite is pretty well curbed for a while.  If I have a bowl of mixed fruit for instance, I add a little yogurt and a few pieces of walnuts.  I have been doing that before I even heard about IE in an attempt to keep my blood sugar level. It must be very hard to do IE with a busy schedule.  I am retired but have times when it is hard for me too.  I  try to remember to take a snack with me, usually those cheese cubes, some nuts or a granola bar/protein bar.  If I let myself get too hungry I then eat out of control. I will be interested in hearing responses from others on your question about " eating schedule " that does not feel like an externally imposed plan.  I find I still " eat by the clock " a lot, a long family tradition too.  I was considering taking my clocks down so I can learn better to identify internal hunger signals. Cause of my work and school schedule I have to eat at very proscribed times and when I am off work/school I still get hungry exactly at those times, even if I ate a little bit before that time :) I think my body is imposing a plan on me when I would rather want flexibility :)To: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent:

I just yesterday decided to experiment with this, as I just referred to in

another post. I'm going to try merging a loving structure of 3 meals and 2

snacks, with having whatever I want, stopping when I'm satisfied, etc.

I'm sure some might see this as counter to IE but I have to say, that when I

tried this yesterday, I felt the most calm and peace I've had since starting

this, and I think when I feel more peaceful and calm, I can be more in touch

with my body and make healthier, more loving choices for myself.

, being gentle and at peace is a main objective of IE as far as I am

concerned. As is being flexible ;-) Sooo if you later feel a need to be less

structured (then) switch over and embrace that experience too. Happy IE journey!
