Guest guest
Hi All, Have any of you who have been on Prednisone become Diabetic? If so are you successful in controlling it with your insulin and diet? The hospital diabetic doctor changed my Novolog insulin units to 6 at breakfast, 8 at lunch and 6 at dinner plus the sliding scale and I was on 8 units of Levimir in the morning. My diabetic doctor here was not changing it even though recently my lung doctor had lowered my Prednisone from 25 to 20 then to 15. I began having problems with my blood sugar dorpping low suddenly, but when I would call her emergency number she would not change my insulin until finally one evening it dropped to 59. This afternoon it dropped to 64 just 2 hours after I had eaten lunch and I though I had eaten too many carbs and probably would have raised it. I got extremely shaky and after I checked it called here emergency number and told them I took the glucose tablets and was going to eat something to raise it. First she asks if there is anyone with me and my answer was no and Jeff wasn't even home as he had gone shopping. She told me to call her back in an hour and if I did get it elevated by then to call 911. But I got it up by eating some chocolate candy and drinking some rasberry juice which then seemed to upset my stomach to have so much sugar. Then before dinner I checked it and it was 174. I have felt exhausted ever since this happened even though I had gotten 9 hours of sleep last night. Any advise about diabetics will be appreciated.
