Guest guest
You are right Mark. If they do not change eating habits now, their pancreas will deteriorate more quickly and will have to start on meds sooner than later. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Tuesday, June 14, 2011 5:41 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: Ok, I got the show rolling on. O can't do that. my honey would kill me dead. snacks don't hurt her like they hurt me. she and her sister both found out last year they are as well a type 2 diabetic like there Momma, but there A1C's are both very low and the doc is very pleased. Neither one take there medicine every day like they should. well the sister in-law doesn't take pills at all. the doc told her she is controlling her diabetes with just diet. she doesn't exercise and she still eats like most people who don't care. seems like I was this way when I found out I was a type 2 in 2002. seems like for the first 4 years I could eat in a crazy way and my A1C never went up much. but as the years went by this eating wrong become a big problem and my A1C has continued to rise. I figure the same thing will happen to the both of them. but you couldn't tell me then and you can't tell them now. this sugar control I know is a personal thing that we each have to take full responsibility for as a individual. it isn't some thing that our family can beat us up about and make us do right. Actually the more folks told me I was doing it all wrong, the more I done the bad choices. call it rebellion or just stubbornness or what ever the label is you like the best, but the truth is a person has to decide on there own when they are sick and tired of the out of control sugars.so I never tell them to keep all junk out of the house because I'm weak and it isn't fair to me. I simply feel I have to be stronger then that. If I go out to eat at a restaurant there too I got to be strong and make good choices. if I go to some one's house to eat, again I have to make good choices. so at home with stuff around me like junk food, I again got to make good choices. I actually feel sorry and sad for you guys who got a family at home with kids and you are a diabetic. of course there will be things in your home that is bad for you to eat, but kids are kids and they eat junk. so you either give in and eat junk too or you make a good choice and wave at the junk as you go by. being around it is harder, but at the same time it can make you stronger in the long run. I'm fixen to go in to the vending program here in Oklahoma probably next year. I will be around piles of junk because junk food is how I will be making my living selling the junk out of a vending machine. If I can't be around that stuff now and say no, well when all that vending machine junk is right here in the house I will probably kill my self trying to consume it all. I know of other diabetics who are in the snack bars or vending machines and they have figured out how to say no to all the junk. they did say it was hard at first, but they knew they had to be stronger or deal with sugars to high. I know you are correct when you say get rid of all the junk in the house, but that probably only works if you live alone. but not every one decides to eat like one another. I guess they could in a perfect world, but that isn't the case around here. I can do it and I will do it. I guess what has finally got my attention after all these years is the sick and tired feeling that comes from out of control diabetes. but it was my choice and I must live with what ever problems it caused from ignoring it for so long. for 2 days, going on 3 days now I have felt better. will know my sugar readings 2 hours after I eat as soon as I can get some eye balls over here to read the test solution bottle for me. then I will post what it says and I will also know by that reading if 30 carbs a meal is to many for me in a meal and if so, I will lower it to 25 and then 20 if need be. I will find out by the meter exactly how many carbs I can eat and keep my sugar no higher then 120 2 hours after I ate. I will get there and I'm back on track. been flipping those Oreo cookies off for 4 straight days so far as I walk by the closet where they live and it feels real good to tell them off like that! Ok, I got the show rolling on. I got my meter out, got the CD in and got it read through for the first time. will read it again in the morning. but got to get some one over here with eye balls to read what the range is on the test solution so I can run a practice test a few times. don't think my honey can read that small print even with her glasses. the instructions sound a lot like the meter I use to have. but this prodigy voice is a little thing compared to the big old acue check I had about ten years ago. they certainly ha ve improved over the years and come down in cost. Just wanted you guys to know I haven't forgot my meter and how we should get along and be buddies again. how many strips do you think I should tell my doc I need him to write a scrip for? some of you say from 4 to 10 and all between. I was thinking maybe ask for eight. this would give me before and after all 3 meals and 2 extra for when ever. I know my insurance will cover most of the cost, but does strips still cost around a dollar each like they once did? I know what it is like to get over in the doughnut hole on the insurance and it isn't a good place to be. I don't suppose there is a generic strip for a meter? I see where the Prodigy people say only there strips will work on there meter. but I can understand this because they can't make the money if I got strips from some where else even if they would work. ok, I'm going to bed now and will concern my self with all of it again to morrow. to day was the second day in a roll I've done very well and I even fe lt better to boot. still would love to grab a package of Oreo cookies out of the closet, but I keep walking by and shooting the middle finger at the closet for support. it makes me feel better anyway. I'm really not being nasty, I'm only telling the cookies that I'm number one and to good to hang out with the likes of them!
Guest guest
The strips are not that expensive anymore Mark. Make sure your insurance will cover as many strips as you want, because some of them will not cover very well for type 2 diabetics. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Monday, June 13, 2011 6:21 PM To: blind diabetics Subject: Ok, I got the show rolling on. Guest guest
You are the one with diabetes. Your doctor will, and I repeat, *WILL* prescribe the number of strips you need. Period. Your doctor is not prohibited from writing such a prescription. Maybe you don't need 10 strips per day forever, maybe you do. But if you need 10 now, then get the prescription written for 10. Don't ever be intimidated by your doctor. Or any doctor. Dave " ...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. " [ 16:33] Ok, I got the show rolling on.
