Guest guest
Hi , Home glucose meters aren't really all that accurate. I saw once on this list that the FDA requires them to give a reading within 20% of the actual glucose value. If that's true, then 80 is only about 14% higher than 70, so both readings are correct within the accuracy of the meter. Mark so which do I believe A couple weeks ago I tested my blood and got a number that was lower than I thought it should be. it was like 70 or something. My friend suggested just squeezing the finger I'd just poked because it looked like it was still bleeding. So I did and my reading was about ten points higher. I've done this a couple other times when my readings were lower than I knew they should be and gotten the same kind of result. So which reading is to be believed? Guest guest
Believe the second one. All meters have as high a variance as 15%. Also, if you did not get enough blood on the strip, it will give you an inaccurate reading. I will do a BG and sometimes it tells me " blood count low " . It may also say " 23 " and since I am not unconscious, I know I did not get enough blood on it. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Sent: Tuesday, June 14, 2011 10:40 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: so which do I believe A couple weeks ago I tested my blood and got a number that was lower than I thought it should be. it was like 70 or something.
