Guest guest
Hi Sue, in the past I had a horrible time with digestion ( to be frank, I sometimes didn't have to - couldn't is more like it - go for 5 or 6 days). I didn't like the idea of metamucil because of the artificial ingredients. I found that plain raw psyillium husks (which is basically what metamucil is without all the additives) works so well for me that now I NEVER miss a day unless I've forgotten to eat my steel cut oatmeal with psyllium & flax. I cook up a big batch of steel cut oats & when it is done cooking I add in the psyllium & once it has cooled I add in the ground flax. then I portion it into smaller containers & freeze it so that I always have a small batch on hand. I make sure to drink lots of liquid after I eat it. Not everyone can use psyllium (because of allergies) but if you have been using metamucil you shouldn't have a problem with it. You can also sprinkle it into soups & stuff to up the fiber content. I haven't actually tried having it just mixed in water but I bet it would work, too, if it were palatable enough (which I'm not convinced about). mj > > I have been focusing on getting more fiber in my diet for the past week and > a half. Guest guest
Sue, I created a " master " food list of every food that I love/like when I started IE. That food list has grown and changed as I've experimented and discovered new foods that I love, learned that I don't really like certain foods, and learned my seasonal preferences. Having my food list made shopping and eating a lot easier because I found that there were many times when I simply didn't want to have to " think " about what I liked or wanted (especially after work when I was tired). I would simply take a look at my handy-dandy list, see something that my intuitive knowing responded to, and make it or get it. My food list was an invaluable tool in the first 1-1.5 years of my IE practice. It sounds like you're in a space where some food adventures/ exploration is needed. Talk with your family and friends about what they like or love to eat to get some new ideas. Watch some food channels. I also encourage people to make the grocery store their friend by taking trips at non-peak hours. I wrote about having a grocery store intervention a couple of months ago: http://exm.nr/alRj3e Food list? YEA! Guest guest
No. My problem is I love too many things. I really enjoy a good hamburger and have one or two every week. It's fun trying hamburgers at different restaurants trying to see whose is the best. One of my favorite summer meals is tomato and bacon sandwiches. If Italian food is your love see which restaurant in town has the best Lasagna. Who has the best Mexican food or chinese food or seafood or pizza? Sometimes I just want dessert. If there is nothing at home to eat and I don't want to go out my old standby is french toast & syrup or cottage cheese and fruit. Surely you have some comfort food that only you would appreciate. Guest guest
Hi Sue!Like my diet cola posting, I view fiber the same way... I try to find foods that I enjoy that have fiber in them, and enjoy them. Since I'm vegan I never have a problem with fiber, because all plant foods except nuts have lots of fiber in them. But knowing that can really help me.There are some decent flavored extra fiber breads out there, fruits and veggies, oatmeal and other whole grains. So what are your faves? Make it an exciting adventure!!! Then, you won't have to track.I'm working with that a bit on vegetables. This summer I've been eating plenty of decent fruits but I've been deficient in the vegetable category. I'm not worried though...taking my vitamins and following IE to the best of my ability. I know that I'm not going to starve or fall apart, and that things will balance. And truly, I've found a nice craving for heirloom tomatoes and can't wait to purchase some at the farmer's market tomorrow. Nice!Ciao! I have been focusing on getting more fiber in my diet for the past week and a half. I want to not take Metamucil anymore, so I have been tracking my fiber intake, which I don’t like doing because it feels like dieting to me (ie. Counting points) but it is working and I am feeling really good and have found that it isn’t that difficult because I really like the foods that I am including in my eating. I think that soon I will be comfortable enough to be able to quit tracking and just know what to do... I want to start a list of foods that I really like, because I am finding that I don’t really care about a lot of stuff that I have routinely eaten in the past. When I think about eating foods that I really love, I am having a hard time coming up with some… Has anyone else found that for themselves?Sue--
