Guest guest
Hey! I too have suffered from several eating disorders through out the years and been at a number of different weights--high and low. During my years of compulsive overeating, I was hungry all the time no matter how much I ate I could not get full--until I was so full I couldn't move; there was no in-between. Then came bulimia in attempt to lose some of the weight, and still I felt like no amount of food could satiate. After years of bulimia, I've segwayed into anorexia and am struggling to normalize my eating with this site and other support. It's like I went from bulimia to anorexia by taking intuitive eating to the extreme. Regardless, what helped me switch from never being satisfied to being satisfied easily were 1) Eating really slowly and really TASTING each bite 2) Figuring out what I REALLY like to eat 3) Always leaving a little on my plate if I'm not hungry for it and 4) Medical help. I take 25 mg of topamax twice a day and it helped me get reacquainted with hunger/fullness signals, feeling full at appropriate times. I don't know if that helped at all. I kind of reached out too just because it feels good to come out of the dark and acknowledge to the group who i am and that I am struggling. Kayla > > Hello all! After overcoming anorexia in high school, then yo-yo dieting for about 10 years, and now compulsive overeating, I've completely had it! I have tried IE before, but in all honesty, it fueled my overeating. However, my weight is now at it's highest, and it's time to get on with life. I am sick and tired of being so out of control with food. I do believe that I definitely use food to " numb " my emotions. I know that I have to just pause and be with my feelings instead of running for food. The biggest problem I'm having right now besides pausing is recognizing what it's like to feel satisfied. The anorexia, then years of yo-yo dieting have totally destroyed my " full " feeling. Any tips on how to get it back? I've eaten many, many times to the point of where my stomach hurts, but can't recognize the subtle full feelings. Any help would be very much appreciated! >
Guest guest
Hi, I've never been anorexic but was bulimic for about 20 years. I worked with an intuitive eater therapist and that really helped me. Do you have access to working with someone to get that one on one support? It made a big difference for me. I worked with one for two years. My issue was that all foods but like 10 triggered me to binge and/or have out of control anxioty. I am now much more comfortable around food in general although when a lot of stressful/emotional stuff is going on (like right now) some of my old ways of thinking try to creep in. I'm about 10lbs heavier then I'd like to be or am used to being, but at this point I can live with it since I don't feel so controlled by my obsessive thinking. Definitely trying to eat a slower is a good thing to do. Also, trying to meditate like 5-10 minutes a day can help calm yourself down overall. Try this site: http://marc.ucla.edu/body.cfm?id=22 Hang in there. Here is the person I worked with: http://www.elyseresch.com/resources.html On this page are I think some other therapists that work on intuitive eating. > > Hello all!
