Guest guest
Im my recent posts I was hard on the magic food book. What then does the last 10 years of research show works for best treatment? 1. lose weight. This is the very biggest bang for effort a diabetic can do. Less fat means less insulin to remove glucose from the blood. Fat cells produce hormones which promote diabetic problems including insulin resistance. 2. Eat to your meter, eat those foods which allow reaching a post meal glucose level. And an a1c which results from that goal. An under 6 is suggested. 3. Exercise on a regular basis. It has only a little effect on weight loss but has a large effect on preparing the cells of the body to use insulin and reverse insulin resistance. When doing moderate to hard exercise muscle cells don't even need insulin to remove glucose from the blood. Fat and other tissue cells do. 4. Avoid saturated fats because they are implicated in beta cell failure and insulin resistance. The culprets are known, mostly red meats and deli type processed meats and meat with a high fat content. For cooking and adding fats to food replace them with mono unsaturated fats. Olive oil is among the very best, canaola is ok but most other plant based oils are not for other reasons. Fish oils and fatty fish contain fats which help with some of the health problems most diabetics face. XB IC|XC
