Guest guest
Here is something to remember when you want to start another diet. It won't stick. You will do great for awhile, it will work, and then you'll start getting tired of keeping track of points, measuring, etc.. I have done WW twice and did lose weight - and gained it back. This is how I started - I ate breakfast, I ate a snack, I ate lunch, I ate a snack and dinner. I knew I couldn't tell when I was hungry but I did know I could tell when I was full. I ate the little snacks because I knew I had gone three or so hours without food. Then, I realized I was hungry when I woke up! And when I was thinking about a snack after dinner I would stop and think Am I hungry? usually it was no. I did eat what I wanted. But for me healthy eating started to make me feel so much better and I asked myself when I wanted something, how will I feel afterward? Crappy? Full? sick? Ok, hope this helps. I know I ramble.... I have dieted since I was 10 years old so those thoughts are so hard to break. I determined I would do IE, but ww is calling my name. I am trying to resist to remind myself I need to learn how to eat. I don't even know where to begin with IE. I keep saying I am going to start, but I don't really. Not binge eating like when I finallly stopped doing ww, just eating past fullness and eating when not hungry. Eating something because my mind is saying I shouldn't...the old diet mentality. WHere to begin..Nicky
Guest guest
Nicky, First of all, congratulations on deciding to do IE. I KNOW how scary it can be to make such a drastic change! When ww beckons, try to remember why you initially gave up dieting/ww. I'm pretty sure that if you were thrilled with the experience, you wouldn't be here now. That said, don't feel like you need to move any more quickly into IE than you are ready to. Perhaps you can focus on one change, and get comfortable with it before making others. For example, you said that you have not been binging but that sometimes you do eat past a comfortable fullness. First off, recognize that that is important and great progress, and congratulate yourself! Next, perhaps you could commit to checking in with yourself before, during, and after eating (or just one or more of these times), to check in about how hungry/ full you are (I like the hunger/fullness scales in the IE book). I suggest that you do NOT try to change your eating as a result of these observations -- for example, making yourself stop eating when you don't want to, just because you're full. That can be too much change, and can backfire on you. Just try noticing, and maybe not even every meal, maybe one meal a day to start, and see how that goes? I think you will be amazed at the changes that gradually come about without having to work too hard at it. Legalizing foods, in particular, can be hard and scary. Don't feel like you have to do it all at once, or that you have to start with that. Be gentle with you, and proud of the hard work you are doing, even with mis-steps! The IE book, of course, has tons of great suggestions of good places to start. This one just makes sense to me. All the best, Abby Here is something to remember when you want to start another diet.
