Guest guest
I like Fiber 1, low carb pancakes, scrambled eggs, good lean sausages, hard boiled eggs, a whole-wheat English muffin with egg and bacon. Breakfast foods Hi All, What type of cereal do people like to eat that works well into their diabetic plans? I need a new cereal as I am getting tired of mine and want an alternative to oatmeal. Guest guest
There really are no cereals that are really good for diabetics as they are all pretty high in carbs. Have someone have you look at the carb counts on different cereals and how big the serving size is. A cereal that says it has only 20 grams per serving may not be so wonderful if the serving size is only 1/4 of a cup!Your meter is your friend if you test about 2 hours after eating. It will tell you how high that particular cereal raises your sugar. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Nina Kagan Sent: Tuesday, February 14, 2012 6:52 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Breakfast foods Hi All, What type of cereal do people like to eat that works well into their diabetic plans? Guest guest
Second on Pat's comments. Most breakfast cereals contain unnecessary carbohydrates. Yes, some offer a relatively high amount of fiber, but the price to pay is usually a very high carbohydrate to serving ratio. And don't forget the milk, which is also high in carbohydrates. Now, unless you're a Dr. Bernstein fan, eating carbohydrates for breakfast isn't all that bad. If you're going to eat them the first meal of the day is probably the time to eat them since you'll have the rest of the day to burn them off. I like to eat oatmeal (se my response to another message) a couple times a week, although this is a breakfast requiring my largest morning dose of Humalog. Depending on your cholesterol, perhaps you can enjoy eggs a couple times a week, with an English muffin (high fiber preferably) or high fiber toast. You can eat yogurt, but the carbs are high I believe. Perhaps the ones with fruit. Bottom line, I'd suggest look for fiber, relatively low carbohydrate to serving size ratio, and limit the milk. Some fruits are a healthy addition, such as blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries. ~~ Now available: THE ATTACHÉ! -- From Desert Breeze Publishing ~~ Visit: http://www.authordavidbond.com Upcoming releases: A TIME TO BUILD -- June, 2012 SWEET MUSIC -- October, 2012 A TIME TO HEAL -- February, 2013 OUT OF THE DESERT -- July, 2013 A TIME TO DANCE -- November, 2013 Breakfast foods Hi All, What type of cereal do people like to eat that works well into their diabetic plans? Guest guest
Do you use instant oatmeal? IF you do, instead, try to use old fashioned oatmeal, made with rolled whole oats. It's a little more work, but much better for you. Guest guest
if you do cereal of your choice, and water instead of milk you have fewer carbs. karen Breakfast foods > Hi All, > > What type of cereal do people like to eat that works well into their > diabetic plans? Guest guest
shredded wheat seems to be lower in carbs then most. I buy the large biscuits and eat only one and best I recall the amount of carbs isn't bad compared to most cereal. I believe shredded wheat also comes in bite size, but I think the big biscuits has a better flavor to me. I think it is also made from the whole grain and hasn't been stripped like most wheat is now days. Guest guest
Absolutely, Mark. Shredded Wheat is one breakfast cereal worth investigating. I like the idea of a product with minimal or no added ingredients. Look at the ingredients on the Shredded Wheat. You'll see only one.
