Guest guest
Are you in the US? This sounds like something to avoid. I wonder how they know you are a diabetic? The best thing IMO is to seek out your own policy (assuming you're not talking about Medicare and an Advantage plan). These insurance companies are pretty savvy, and if you think you're getting a really good price from an agent, you better read the fine print. If my flex pen has a few more units left in it, but not enough for my shot, do I use what is left in the all most empty pen and then use the next new pen for what I have to make up a shot amount? hate to pitch any out just because it isn't enough for a shot. my sugars have been so good the past 5 days on the flex pen that he has lowered my evening dose to 17 instead of 20. I suppose he thought I was maybe going to low at night. maybe I should have ask the nurse. so far to day I have tested 3 times and all 3 have been under 120 and over 100 of course. actually they have been 104, 106, and 112. I haven't seen numbers like this in more then seven years! I only started the insulin on Friday. it isn't a week yet. I believe I will picture my self doing cart wheels up the street! Guest guest
this is what I have. Medicare that cost me $100 out of my ssdi each month and a advantage plan that cost me nothing. it really is a pretty good deal for me and has worked well now for about ten years. now they only allow you a certain amount each year and then after you pass it you are in what they call the doughnut hole. this doughnut hole can get you in the poor house in a hurry if you have lots of medicine that is costly. they continue to say they soon will do away with the doughnut hole, but it hasn't happened yet. question please. Guest guest
If you do tend to hit the donut hole, you might want to look into paying cash for some of your meds. I only run my insulin and another anti-seizure medication through insurance, which still manages to put me right up to the donut hole. Places like Wal-Mart and Costco (to name 2) offer cash pricing for many drugs for as low as $5 or so per 30-day prescription, and something a little better for 90-day prescriptions. If you have to pay a co-pay for these drugs, you might as well pay cash and keep it from running you up toward your donut hole. Guest guest
Yes, that donut hole can be a real problem for those of us who are on many different prescription medications. I am fortunate as I have MediCare and another health insurance, so when MediCare quits with the donut hole, my other insurance picks it up. However the co-pay has become so high, it is worth it for me to pay cash for some of meds instead of getting it through the 3 month mail-in insurance I have. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2012 5:21 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: diabetic insurance this is what I have. Guest guest
I have never heard of diabetic insurance and I have been diabetic for 67 years. I would find out more about these people through your State insurance. You can usually find them on the web. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of R. Guest guest
well I'm also enough Indian that the Choctaw can give me some or most of the meds I take for free, but they won't give you what you can normally get at the drug store. I all ready know they won't give me the flex pens because I checked in to it. most of the time they won't agree to give you the meds that the doc prefers over the no name drugs. so I mainly allow the Indian care to cover my part of a hospital bill and just pay the rest for my meds on my own. The flex pen and the plavicks I take alone will put me in the doughnut hole before the end of the year. I know it could be a lot worse because years ago it was, so we do what we got to do and be thankful for what they will pay. question please.
