My son is 3 years old is on Valtrex. We are on the NIDS protocol (with Dr. G) and Valtrex has been HUGE for us. His receptive language has went through the roof, his expressive language is getting better and his social interaction and attending to tasks has improved dramatically. He was non-verbal when we started 4 months ago and the improvements have been nothing short of a miracle. Good Luck to you,

Hi

Im new to this site and would like to introduce myself,my name is Sophie and I have a 3yr old son called Franco who has recently started using the bio medical treatment. Franco has not yet had a diagnosed for his condition, but a lot of carers that work with Franco believe it to be autism.

So this is all very new to us, we have only been seeing the bio dr for 3 weeks and so far he has put Franco on a Gluten/Dairy/Wheat free diet, with 6 supplements.

Last Friday the Dr received Franco's blood test back and he told us that Franco had a large showing of Herpes 1 in his system, 18 to be precise, and he said Franco would benefit from taking Valtrex, my concern was that the packet only showed a dosage for 12yrs of age and I worried that it could be harmful to Franco, I wondered if there were any other parents that had children of the same age on Valtrex, and wondered if they could tell me their experience of it, eg side affect, what differences they saw in their child.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

God Bless

Sophie

Hey , if you continue to follow this group you will hear alot about Valtrex, so don't worry. My son was on it when he was 4yr. We aren't sure if he started getting better from that or not, beacause we were doing so many other treatments, but it sounds like your son really needs it. It is a safe proven antiviral like OLE and other things I would imagine Dr.G told you about. If you really wan't to learn about all this watch Autism Research Institute DAN! webcasts

Three yrs old is NOT too young for valtrex. The dose for a 3 yr old is 250 mgs 3 times per day. You need to also take a strong antifungal like diflucan (script needed) while on valtrex or yeast will flare up. You should google Stan Kurtz and valtrex and read all about it.

My daughter is also going to start Valtrex in a week..we started her on Difulcan

first and we told to wait 10-14 days to start Valtrex.

My daghter is also non-verbal and has high titers for 6 shots that she

received....anyway so your child started talking with the help of Valtrex?

Hi Everyone

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me.

My son is due to start Valtrex next week, I have been informed to give him,

250mg in the morning and 250mg in the evening. I have no idea if 500mg is the

correct dosage for a 3yr old that weighs 35lbs.

We are so new to all of this and need as much advice and help as possible.

Franco really tries to talk, but its mostly echolalia, he has had a few words

from about the age of 2, so hopefully Valtrex may help him along.

How old is your daughter ?

God Bless

Sophie

Yes, my son had about 5-10 words when we started in Novemeber and reciptive language was limited too! His receptive language has come up to the point I can ask him anything - Go get your shoes, take off your clothes, time to eat etc. and he is following all the directions. He is now saying about 30 words and attempting many others. Everyday there are improvements. The other drug which has helped him play normally and have better social interaction is Celexa (SSRI)! These two drugs combined (and of course an anti-fungal) have been like an awakening in our son. Therapists and friends are all amazed and we are very excited about what this next year will bring for him. We have tried so many things and we are just so happy we found Dr. G and his protocol. I know some protocols work better than others for certain kids, but after plugging along for the last few years with not much success, it is good to figure out we have a viral kid on our hands. I will also note our son was on valtrex about 1 1/2 ago and we did not see this big WOW we are seeing now. I suspect it is the combo of the Valtrex and Celexa that is doing it this time. Just what we are observing!Best of luck to everyone,

Celexa is an SSRI which is basically an anti-depressent but we are not using it for that reason. We are using it because SSRI's increase blood flow and seratonin to the brain. We use a VERY low dose so we can help the temporal lobes heal from all the damage caused by the herpes viruses in his body. I can not tell you how scared I was to use these, but it has made a HUGE difference in his cognition. We have only been on Celexa for 3 weeks and the change is undeniable and simply amazing!

That's what I thought, thanks for sharing. My son needs help with cognition and

we are using vincocepine now for increasing blood flow and seeing some results.

I will keep this in mind for next visit. How long do you expect him to be on

it?

He will be on it long enough to get the viruses under control! He may very well be on it for the rest of his life, it all depends on the child. Younger kids seem to heal better obviously. If he keeps showing the amazing progress he is making then I expect him to be on it long-term. He is just so much more appropriate and has literally gained a year of receptive language in about 2 months. He attends for task for more than 30 minutes at a time and we are seriously thinking of enrolling him in a NT preschool this summer a few days a week. He also has been moved from the "autistic special needs class" to the language delayed room in less than 3 months time.

That's what I thought, thanks for sharing. My son needs help with cognition and we are using vincocepine now for increasing blood flow and seeing some results. I will keep this in mind for next visit. How long do you expect him to be on it?
