Guest guest
The only things I don't like about the Solo V2 is it's inability to announce the time when reviewing the history (it only announces the date), and if you lack sensitivity in your fingertips, the marking on the strips to indicate which end to place in the meter is very slight. I happen to have 2 brand new Solo V2 meters a representative gave me. But the meters aren't really all that expensive, so considering a change should have to do with the idiosyncrasys mentioned above, and coverage of the strips, more than anything else. Dave ~~ Now available: THE ATTACHÉ! -- From Desert Breeze Publishing ~~ Visit: http://www.authordavidbond.com Upcoming releases: A TIME TO BUILD -- June, 2012 SWEET MUSIC -- October, 2012 A TIME TO HEAL -- February, 2013 OUT OF THE DESERT -- July, 2013 A TIME TO DANCE -- November, 2013 Solo V2 VS Prodigy Voice I currently have a Prodigy voice meter, one of the first ones that came out a few years ago. When I had my doctor's office call in a script for the prodigy Voice strips through Walgreens, I was told that those strips were no longer available. I called prodigy, and was told that all their meters now use the same Prodigy " no code " strips and that the NDC code is different and I was given the new code which I then gave to my doctor's office. They called in the script again, and I received the strips. Well, it turns out that these new strips don't work in my Prodigy voice. If I insert one of the older strips that are now expired, the meter turns on just fine. I called Prodigy again and I'm pretty upset at the way they are handling this. So far they are not willing to replace my meter. According to them the newer strips with the different NDC code should work fine but they do not. Now I'm stuck with 100 strips and a meter that won't work with them. I've just started using Insulen so I have to be able to get my sugar readings. To make a long story short, if I have to buy a new meter or have my insurance pay for one, I just may switch to a different brand because of the way Prodigy has chosen to handle this. I know some folks have chosen to go with the Solo V2 so I'm wondering what the differences are between the 2 meters and if the Solo has any advantages over the Prodigy. Thanks much. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Dave. I just checked my coverage on Humana.com and the strips are covered but with a co-pay of $11 where the Prodigy strips have a zero co-pay. I don’t mind the $11 so much but the fact that no time stamp is given when reviewing the history wouldn’t be too good so thanks for the heads up. Guess I’ll have to stick with Prodigy and just bite the bullet and order a newer model. That’s fully covered as well so no problem there but I’m pretty annoyed with the way they handled my situation. Thanks again. Guest guest
, They use the same strips now. If you wanted to get a new/different meter, just get the Prodigy Voice. If you have sight loss, the Voice announces all functions and everything in the setup menu is audible. It also has a repeat button. The AutoCode is very primitive comparatively speaking. Guest guest
Hi Dave, thanks for letting me know that. I had tried the AutoCode, a friend of mine let me try hers. I got the strips for it, but, it seemed to always be way off. Compared to , Accu-Chek. I'd say about 60mg/dL different. ________________________________ To: blind-diabetics Sent: Monday, March 12, 2012 5:16 PM Subject: Re: Solo V2 VS Prodigy Voice  , They use the same strips now. Guest guest
Hi Dave, thanks for telling me that. I had no idea that they used the same test strips. ________________________________ To: blind-diabetics Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2012 5:03 AM Subject: Re: Solo V2 VS Prodigy Voice  The Prodigy meters have been using the same strips for a few years now. No manual coding is necessary. For anyone using a Prodigy meter requiring coding, you've got a pretty old meter. Guest guest
Are you saying you compared the Prodigy reading to the lab work result? I found, when I used the Prodigy meters, they were usually pretty close when the blood sugar level was somewhere near normal. IF the blood sugar was pretty far from normal, the allowable difference was greater. Guest guest
Hello, , There are two types of meters: One checks the sugar concentration in whole blood, the other in plasma. I believe the Prodigy meters are, like many other meters in the United States, based on the whole blood reading, which will give a different value from the plasma meters. Have you ever used the AutoCode? ________________________________ From: Rick Alfaro <rick.alfaro@... <mailto:rick.alfaro%40gmail.com> <mailto:rick.alfaro%40gmail.com> > To: blind-diabetics <mailto:blind-diabetics%40yahoogroups.com> <mailto:blind-diabetics%40yahoogroups.com> Sent: Monday, March 12, 2012 12:37 PM Subject: RE: Solo V2 VS Prodigy Voice Finally got a call back from Prodigy and they are sending me out a new meter. I’m glad they finally decided to do the right thing although it took quite a bit of squeaking on my end. I happen to have 2 brand new Solo V2 meters a representative gave me. But the meters aren't really all that expensive, so considering a change should have to do with the idiosyncrasys mentioned above, and coverage of the strips, more than anything else.
