Guest guest
Thank you all so much for all of the wonderful advise and information. I picked up some Calm PRT from our DAN's office and his nurse said he was going to call me tonight when he was finished seeing patients. I hope to have some feedback from him this evening, but you all gave me lots of direction that will help me ask the right questions when I talk to him. We have tested his thyroid each year and everything seems fine with that. I am trying to learn about the oxalates and will ask about that. I am leaning towards the Pandas due to the fact of the timing and him already having issues with it. I did see a post from a local autism support group here in Dallas that was very interesting and something I would have never thought of. There is a probiotic called GUTPro, it does not have certain bacterial strains like strep. Here is a quote from their website http://organic3.com/gutpro/ "GUTPro’s™ unique custom probiotic formula is based on extensive research gathered from communities with a vested interest in improving gut health." GAPS Diet Gut and Psychology Syndrome SCD Diet Body Ecology Diet Gluten Free / Casein Free / Soy Free (GFCFSF) Autism PANDAS (Pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections) I never even gave thought to the fact that by doubling his probiotic I could have actually been making the PANDAS worse, so I am definitely going to give this a try. Thank you all again for your help, I really appreciate it! Guest guest
Augmentin is very tough on the stomach. Call the doc immediately and get him switched to azithromycin. Subject: Re: Anxiety/Crying, Is It Strep Infection or Antibiotic That Is Triggering It?To: mb12 valtrex Date: Tuesday, February 22, 2011, 9:52 AM My son had the infection 2 days ago. Doctor put him on augmentin. He became so agressive, emotional and also he is itching a lot. I know that those are the side effects but it really scares me to continue to the antibiotic. He is on day 4, we have 6 more days to go. I am not sure which is damaging my son, strep or augmentin? I wrote to my DAN but did not get any response yet. Guest guest
Thank you . Is Azithromycin a solution or a capsule? It is 5pm in my country right know and I can not have access to a doctor. However, pharmacies are still open for another hour. I thought I could get it and start right away. I have another question though. His ill symptoms are seem to be gone. Can I just stop the augmentin and take nothing else? Thanks Augmentin is very tough on the stomach. Guest guest
Technically you should finish a script of antibiotics or the illness could come back. It's fine to miss a few doses until you can get a new script from your doc. You will need a script for azithro. We get ours from a compounding pharmacy in tablet form w/o the red dye on it. I do think it also comes in liquid form' Subject: Re: Anxiety/Crying, Is It Strep Infection or Antibiotic That Is Triggering It?To: mb12 valtrex Date: Tuesday, February 22, 2011, 9:52 AM My son had the infection 2 days ago. Guest guest
Sounds like he is allergic. I would call and ask for something different. Guest guest
Thanks I believe nothing can get my son constipated:)) We always had loose stools. And augmentin made it even looser, like diarrhea. This was not the reason why I am stopping it though. It is the itching, aggression, and saddness that makes me afraid. I probably will not start another form of antibiotic, or I can try Azithro. My husband does not want me to, that is why I am confused. Thank you for responding Ayse My dd5 has PANDAS. We started on Azithromycin (saw big Wows!) and after 5 or so weeks, started to back slide, so our Dr. has us try Augmentin SR (slow release, 2x a day) it killed her stomach- she basically stopped eating (very little) and stopped drinking as much, constipated (yes, I did probiotics and Diflucan with it, clean diet, gave her stuff for constipation) on the 3rd day when she slumped from the kitchen table chair to under the table, I PULLED it. Got right back on the Azith., she is eating, pooing, drinking- much better! G/L -- I got my Azith. from a compounding pharmacy in a liquid (GF/CF/SF dye free, and yet good tasting) now she swallows pills, and they made up the Azith. in speical capsules for her, too- Hang in there- > > > > Subject: Re: Anxiety/Crying, Is It Strep Infection or Antibiotic That Is Triggering It? > To: mb12 valtrex > Date: Tuesday, February 22, 2011, 9:52 AM > > > >  > > My son had the infection 2 days ago. Guest guest
, I will be praying for you and your little girl. You will see itll turn out ok. You know what's going on inside her little body - that's half the battle. Please keep us posted. -Tammy To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Tue, February 22, 2011 10:51:56 PMSubject: Re: Anxiety/Crying, Is It Strep Infection or Antibiotic That Is Triggering It? We started at treatment dose- for my dd5, who weighs 40 pounds, that is 200 mg a day, 1x a day- Azith. has a longer life in the body (up to 1-1 1/2 days) and gave ibuprofen 2x a day, at treatment dose for her body weight. Took copious, detailed daily notes. I recommend a 30 day trial. Give a good probiotic.I also had her tested for PANDAS through a blood test at a university research center- it measures the auto-immune function in the brain- we came back high/severe PANDAS.She has had this untreated for some years-It is hard, and sad (just had a heartbreaking night)We are going to IVIG in a few weeks- prayers appreciated, a quick good thought...I really love this little girl.>> what dose azith and for how long? > > > > > ________________________________> > To: mb12 valtrex > Sent: Wednesday, February 23, 2011 6:14:57> Subject: Re: Anxiety/Crying, Is It Strep Infection or Antibiotic > That Is Triggering It?> > > My dd5 has PANDAS. Guest guest
, I'm sorry about your heartbreaking night. PANDAS/PITAND when fully exacerbated really is a nightmare beyond description. One of the homepaths that we've consulted with over the years suggested a homeopathic combo not designed to treat the strep or underlying infection but instead just to (as he said it) "get him off the ledge". In his darkest days, it really did help. It's called Psy Stabil and Dalektro-N by Pekana Remedies. Also, in our darkest days we had no choice but to rely on Clonazepam. I took some grief from some over this but taking it made him quit telling me he was ready to die rather than live like that. We've NEVER had addiction issues, when he's feeling better he just walks away from it. Know there are options out there to help during the darkest times, don't let anyone dissuade you from considering every gun in the arsenal. Prayer does help, maybe consider looking into The Healing Code.Best wishes to you.GayleTo: mb12 valtrex Sent: Tue, February 22, 2011 10:51:56 PMSubject: Re: Anxiety/Crying, Is It Strep Infection or Antibiotic That Is Triggering It?
