Guest guest
The only thing I have ever heard pertaining to " toe-walking " is that it is related to yeast overgrowth in the GI Tract. I know a boy from my daughters school that toe-walked constantly, after 3 months of nystatin/natural antifungals it was gone. Saw it for myself!!! So I don't know if it is really a " foot problem " .......hopefully others will comment. Good Luck.... Toe walking, is a Podiatrist visit worth it? My son is 3 and is still toe walking. Is it worth seeing a Podiatrist...will it go away on it's own or does anyone have any suggestions that I could to help him?
Guest guest
I was told ( by an accomplished OT) toe walking was a child's attempt to stimulate the vestibular system by engaging the gastrocnemius. Guest guest
I have been thinking about investing in a Trampoline. Does your O. Guest guest
There are a couple of good books put there with practical tips:The Sensory Smart Child Building Bridges through Sensory Integration Therapy( I'm sure there are many more)Our child benefits greatly from a lot of exercise, movement etcI would also check out what the other parent said about yeast which can cause many strange symptoms.Having a full " sensory diet" has been very useful for our son. The trampoline is one of the best purchases we've made. We have a big on in the back yard and a small one in his room. He is a huge sensory seeker craving constant input to his syrstem.I will say though starting a biomed protocol last May has by far had the strongest impact on reducing his sensory need. Guest guest
Thank you so much , we will hopefully be able to invest in a Trampoline this year. I also wish we could invest in a wooden play yard set with a slide, monkey bars swing set but gosh they want $699. - $2,000 for these play yard gyms these days...crazy! Guest guest
Irma, You can get a mini tramp and one of those big therapy balls (target) for probably $60 total. Go to the library and look for the "building bridges" book. Ask them to order it if unavaiable. It has terrific fun interactive push-pull-play activities for you and your child. If you can't find it, e mail me off list and I'll send you ours. Sent from my iPhone Thank you so much , we will hopefully be able to invest in a Trampoline this year. Guest guest
My son did that too. We did OT & Biomedical interventions. It resolved but not sure exactly what it was in regards to biomed that did it. One of my friends who has a daughter with Aspergers that does toe walking is still doing it but has significantly decreased. She isn't on the diet, biomed or have OT; However, she is active in sports and basically, the mom tells her to stop walking on her toes everytime she see's her doing it. ?Behavioral? Sensory? Guest guest
Not sure of the type of arsenic. Stan tested high in arsenic, and I remember reading that one source of arsenic could be the arsenic in wood preservative.I bought a step 2 plastic set. I think you may be able to find a wood set without the arsenic, but I would check with the manufacturer to confirm what the wood has been treated with.Really , what kind of Arsenic would you say they are treated with? Guest guest
Irma,My daughter has always been more poopy than less. I don't think she's ever been constipated and she's walked on her toes as long as I can remember. At this point I believe it's a habit so that is why I am gonna try the PT. Guest guest
I don't believe toe-walking has much to do with yeast or constipation. Many autistic kids have a poor sense of gravity and walk on their toes. What to do? Yes, see a podiatrist who is well-versed in this. If you do nothing, the back of his foot will shrink and he will need surgery to walk flat. Hi Pamela,My son has never been constipated, he's to regular. Guest guest
Irma, my son's a big-time toe-walker. He's got incredible calf muscles because of it : ). Have you noticed if your kiddo toe-walks less with shoes on? My son barely ever does it with shoes. If you notice this, maybe you could try to keep shoes on all day (?). Though, I don't think anything bad could come from toe walking.... -Tammy To: mb12 valtrex ; mb12 valtrex Sent: Sun, February 27, 2011 11:41:14 AMSubject: Re: Toe walking, is a Podiatrist visit worth it? Guest guest
Check out Craigs List. We got our trampoline complete w/ pad and safety for $75. not too shabby! My boys love it...when weather permits, they are on it every single day. It's something they never get tired of. I say, if you've got the cash, go for it. -Tammy To: mb12 valtrex ; mb12 valtrex Sent: Sun, February 27, 2011 12:16:04 PMSubject: Re: Toe walking, is a Podiatrist visit worth it? Thank you so much , we will hopefully be able to invest in a Trampoline this year. I also wish we could invest in a wooden play yard set with a slide, monkey bars swing set but gosh they want $699. - $2,000 for these play yard gyms these days...crazy! I sometimes hate taking my 3 year old to the local parks because I always find agressive children with parents whom do care to discipline. The private Trampoline in our back yard is the way to go. Thxs again! ; To: mb12 valtrex <mb12 valtrex >; Subject: Re: Toe walking, is a Podiatrist visit worth it? Sent: Sun, Feb 27, 2011 4:54:01 PM There are a couple of good books put there with practical tips: The Sensory Smart Child Building Bridges through Sensory Integration Therapy ( I'm sure there are many more) Our child benefits greatly from a lot of exercise, movement etc I would also check out what the other parent said about yeast which can cause many strange symptoms. Having a full " sensory diet" has been very useful for our son. The trampoline is one of the best purchases we've made. We have a big on in the back yard and a small one in his room. He is a huge sensory seeker craving constant input to his syrstem. I will say though starting a biomed protocol last May has by far had the strongest impact on reducing his sensory need. Hope this is helpful! Sent from my iPhone I have been thinking about investing in a Trampoline. Does your O. T recommend any other exercises for toe walking to strengthen the Achilles feet muscles? I'm really worried about how it may affect his gate in the long run??? ; To: mb12 valtrex <mb12 valtrex >; Subject: Re: Toe walking, is a Podiatrist visit worth it? Sent: Sun, Feb 27, 2011 4:20:35 PM I was told ( by an accomplished OT) toe walking was a child's attempt to stimulate the vestibular system by engaging the gastrocnemius. When mine starts doing it I send him out to the trampoline :)Sent from my iPhone My son is 3 and is still toe walking. Is it worth seeing a Podiatrist...will it go away on it's own or does anyone have any suggestions that I could to help him?
Guest guest
If you own your home, check your home owner's policy. Some will not cover injuries related to trampolines, others will just cancel you if they find out.We have a mini trampoline with an enclosure, it's about 90$ at Walmart. It's about 5 ft across, for one person at a time... I think good to 100 lbs.  Check out Craigs List. We got our trampoline complete w/ pad and safety for $75. not too shabby!
