I had numbness in my feet for a few years and would often find the need to toe walk to maintain balance. I ALWAYS toe walk up the stairs and find this common with moms of kids with autism. Guest guest
Thxs Tammy! Yes, he also walks on his toes with shoes on but never really on his tippy toes I would say. With shoes, it's as if he lightly stumps the front toe area to the ground.I just don't want this to affect his gait posture. Strong calf muscles do look really nice though!I always wondered do runners run on their toes to gain more speed? I'll have to google this. From: T Lynn ; To: <mb12 valtrex >; Subject: Re: Toe walking, is a Podiatrist visit worth it? Sent: Mon, Feb 28, 2011 3:18:32 AM Irma, my son's a big-time toe-walker. He's got incredible calf muscles because of it : ). Have you noticed if your kiddo toe-walks less with shoes on? My son barely ever does it with shoes. If you notice this, maybe you could try to keep shoes on all day (?). Though, I don't think anything bad could come from toe walking.... -Tammy To: mb12 valtrex ; mb12 valtrex Sent: Sun, February 27, 2011 11:41:14 AMSubject: Re: Toe walking, is a Podiatrist visit worth it? Guest guest
I agree and will do...thanks again for your wonderful advise!!!!Irma From: T Lynn ; To: <mb12 valtrex >; Subject: Re: Toe walking, is a Podiatrist visit worth it? Thank you so much , we will hopefully be able to invest in a Trampoline this year. I also wish we could invest in a wooden play yard set with a slide, monkey bars swing set but gosh they want $699. - $2,000 for these play yard gyms these days...crazy! I sometimes hate taking my 3 year old to the local parks because I always find agressive children with parents whom do care to discipline. The private Trampoline in our back yard is the way to go. Having a full " sensory diet " has been very useful for our son. The trampoline is one of the best purchases we've made. We have a big on in the back yard and a small one in his room. He is a huge sensory seeker craving constant input to his syrstem. I will say though starting a biomed protocol last May has by far had the strongest impact on reducing his sensory need. Some will not cover injuries related to trampolines, others will just cancel you if they find out.We have a mini trampoline with an enclosure, it's about 90$ at Walmart. It's about 5 ft across, for one person at a time... I think good to 100 lbs.  Check out Craigs List. We got our trampoline complete w/ pad and safety for $75. not too shabby! Guest guest
I was told by our local lumber store guy that treated lumber (the kind with little lines punched into it) manufactured before 2003 was treated with arsenic. We've painted over any exposed treated lumber in our yard. Set up a RSS feed on craigslist....playsets come up all the time for free, you just need to reply really fast. Guest guest
I toe walked until I was 14 and the kids made fun of me all the time. Heavier work boots is what stopped my toe walking. (Plus the steel toe helps to deal with the bullies at the playground). I still wear indoor shoes in the house. I need to feel the weight on my feet.  I was told by our local lumber store guy that treated lumber (the kind with little lines punched into it) manufactured before 2003 was treated with arsenic. Guest guest
Just to throw this out. We have a trampoline. All four of my children have autism. They love the trampoline!! When we changed home insurance policy last year, they weren't going to allow us yo keep it and still insure us. We wrote them a letter explaining that our children have autism and they use it for OT. They underwrote it for us under a medical exception!! I've learned that most of the time, if you ask, the worst they can say is " no " !!! But most of the time, I get a " yes " to things!!!!! Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways, acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.
