Guest guest
I still struggle with this. If I tell myself I'm not going to eat and watch TV, isn't tha a 'rule'? Caren I've been working with The Appetite Awareness Workbook and I noticed one place where I was having difficulty and that was eating in front of the TV. Guest guest
No I don't find it a rule at all. I can watch TV any time as I have PVR, which is the same as TVO. Watching TV and eating cause me so many more issues that I don't want anymore. I don't consider TV my friend so it doesn't feel like I've stopped eating with a friend. It's the way I feel afterward that makes me not want to do it anymore. The same as when I eat something that makes me feel ill-I want to avoid it. Before I started Intuitive Eating I used to crave Mars bars; however, once I started introducing them I found them too rich and have not craved or really wanted them since. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Caren: I consider that a CHOICE, rather than a rule. Rules disregard our preferences and observations about what works personally for us. Rules tend to be extreme, all or nothing decisions. However, we can make choices as we learn intuitive eating that may not exactly match every 'rule' or guideline in every intuitive eating book. Those guidelines change slightly from author to author. Mindful eating, which includes observing how we feel during and after eating certain foods as well as when and how we overeat, allows us to finetune our eating habits as we go along. We can make different choices which allow use to eat more mindfully and pay more attention to hunger/fullness cues. Guest guest
Jo--that's awesome! I feel the same about TV--it definitely fuels the need to eat for me. If I have something to do with my hands other than eating, that seems to help. I started crocheting again and it makes a difference (so far). Congrats to you!
