I just got approved for the list. I'm a blind diabetic with insulin dependent diabetes. I use a pump. Sometimes my wife gets annoyed about having to change it for me though. So far I can not figure out how to chane it myself. I wish they made a talking pump. But even then, I would have trouble drawing up the insulin myself as I can not hear the sound of bubbles getting in. Well talk to you all later. scott ps. Since I am on the pump, I do not have to watch what I eat. What i do though is count carbs and that works for me just great. -- My skype is scott20122012 Have a great day! 73's kb0clz Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network. Guest guest
Welcome , I am insulin dependant also for 67 years. I too have a pup and have to have my husband fill the cartridge.. Did you have a pump instructor come to your house to show you how to use the pump? Which one do you have. For the moment, I have the Roesch Spirit, but am soon to change to the MediMed ppump with the CMG attached. Just waiting for approval from MediCare. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Sent: Sunday, March 18, 2012 6:51 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: hello all, i am new here Hi everyone. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the list. Glad to have another pumper! I've had Type 1 diabetes for 20 and a half years (I'm 30 years old) and have been using a pump for just over five years now. I used a Deltec Cozmo for four years and have been using an Animas Ping for the past year. I do have some usable vision, but am able to fill pump cartridges non-visually. I use pen cartridges instead of insulin vials because it is easier to monitor how much insulin is left (it won't let you fill more than is in the vial), and it's also much easier to avoid bubbles since there is no air in the pen cartridges, unlike insulin vials which have lots of air inside them. I usually fill a cartridge full, then tap it several times and empty insulin back into the pen cartridge so that my pump cartridge ends up being about 2/3rds full. This works well because I change my set and cartridge every two days instead of every three due to allergy issues. Usually when I take the needle out of the pen cartridge I also squirt a few units to make sure insulin comes out and not air. Also, when I prime the tubing I do it with the cartridge facing " up " so that any remaining bubbles will be primed through the tubing and, once I feel insulin drip out the end, will be gone. My CDE has watched me do this and says I'm better at getting rid of bubbles than most sighted people she's seen. I can't remember the last time I had problems with bubbles (I do have a video magnifier and do check from time to time if I have unexpected highs, but haven't found bubbles in a long time). I agree that I wish they had talking pumps. It's not a matter of technical limitations anymore, just interest (or lack thereof). Jen
Guest guest
Hello. I have an animus pump. So does the pump you are going to get talk? I've only been diabetic for almost 22 years. They tell me it is because of the meds i take for my kidney transplant which i've had for almost as long. scott -- Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network. The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? " ~Psalm 27:1 ~Be Blessed, Sugar Re: hello all, i am new here Hello. I have an animus pump. Guest guest
I also use animus. But im not sure of the model number though. I think its 2020. I would never go back to the pen or plungers. -- Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network. Visit www.serotek.com to learn more about accessibility anywhere. Guest guest
The Prodigy company is supposedly working on a talking pump. The last I heard was they are trying to get it approved by the FDA, which is not approving anything new in the diabetic field. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Sent: Sunday, March 18, 2012 10:01 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: hello all, i am new here Hello.
