Guest guest
Hi Dave, thanks for saying so. ________________________________ To: blind-diabetics Sent: Monday, March 19, 2012 4:51 PM Subject: Re: Prodigy Meter  Many of us who are blind are on Medicare. Guest guest
my sister sells these advantage plans here in Oklahoma and best I recall her telling me is a ppo lets you see any doctor you wish, but you will pay more out of pocket for this right. the HMO has a network of doctors that you can see and as long as you see one of these doctors, then they only charge you a small co pay. not all the supplement plans that we get to go with our Medicare has a monthly cost. some will and some don't. just depends on what kind of coverage is best for you will depend on if there is a monthly cost. every state has different supplement and advantage plans. Dave is right about he can't make a change until the open in rollment and that will be in the late fall. I've been on the same one now for ten years and there is no monthly cost for me. I do pay out of my ssdi check each month $98 for A and B Medicare. our co pay for the regular doc is $10 and a specialist is $35. the first 5 days you are in the hospital it cost you $225 out of your pocket. after the first five days you are in, then it goes away I think and there is no cost then for you. I think there is a emergency room cost of $50 if they treat you and send you home. I believe I got my facts straight. my sister says the different HMO and PPo companies are going to get rid of the doughnut hole in a few years. I know it is better now then it use to be. on my plan now I'm aloud $2,850 for my medicine each year that the supplement will cover. then of course I got a co pay of $3, $6 or $44. most of my meds are the tear one and tear two drugs, but my plavics is the $44 because it is a tear 3 drug. all my strips and needles as well as the Prodigy voice meter was free and still is. well I suppose some one is paying for it, but it isn't me. I do have to pay $89 for the 5 70-30 novelog flex pens I use at this time. I will be in the doughnut hole some time around September if I'm on the flex pens until then. I believe once I get in the hole I pay half of what the drug cost up to a certain level and then I go in to a different tear. I'm pretty sure I won't have to worry with none of that. my sister was telling me she has some older people that are on drugs that cost in the neighborhood of $5,000 a month. there part is in some cases $1,200 and this depends on there monthly income. these insurance companies are going to get us coming or going. one way or the other they will get you where it hurts. my sister always tells folks who are looking every fall to make a change trying for better coverage, that there is always a trade off of some kind. you may gain over here and give something up you like on the other side. you just have to compare what is out there and then decide which will work best for your needs. some advantage and supplements won't cover some drugs that diabetics use, where others will. same goes for certain drugs. example, WalMart may have less costly drugs as far as your co pay is, but the people that work in the drug industry will tell you that WalMart is getting there cheaper drugs from a country where the restrictions aren't as hard as this country. so once again you may save money, but there is a trade off for that right. generic drugs aren't always the best to take, but they will cost you less money per month. my sister is a lot of help for the blind folks that live here in Oklahoma. I bet if any of you had any questions about the supplements and advantage plans in general she would be happy to answer what she could. I know we all live in different parts of the country, but most of there rules and regulations are pretty much the same and probably easy to look up on the net. I forward a lot of the post on this list to her anyway, so she can get more educated about diabetes so she can help me do what I got to do. Now I'm taking my bed time sugar and hitting the sack. 4 a.m gets here way to fast for this old man! Guest guest
Hmmm. I need referrals to see a specialist, and I need to use " in network " suppliers. My doctor is in the network. Perhaps with a PPO, here in Pennsylvania perhaps, the network of doctors and suppliers is larger in a PPO then in an HMO. Thanks for the explanation. We use those doctors and yes it seems you have to get referals but that is not a problem for me. My family doctor seems willing to send me to whoever i need to see. -- Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network. Visit www.serotek.com to learn more about accessibility anywhere. Guest guest
I think there's Geisinger Medical or something not too far from here, but I don't think they're in our county. And I think a lot of these plans vary depending on your county/state. Are you in Pennsylvania by any chance? The Geisinger I'm aware of is somewhere in the Reading or town areas. Guest guest
Hi Dave, no, I'm not in Pennsylvania. My plan does have to be in my county, though.
