Guest guest
Did you start diet and supplements at the same time? If so, stop the supplements and just see how he does on the diet. Don't make multiple changes within the same week. One change at a time. Guest guest
Hi Sophie. How are your son's stools since he started GFCF? Have they changed in any way? And what has he been eating? My son has been on a GFCF diet for 25 days, our biomed Dr put him on this diet and gave him 6 suppliments to take. Ive noticed more negatives than positives, which is really worrying me. I rang the Bio Dr yesterday to tell him that my son was showing more stimming signs, and that he his flapping his hands like crazy, and he never really used to flap his hands before he started this diet. The Dr said it could either be that his stomache is inflamed or that he is getting more aware and his senses are more active? Has anyone heard of this,Im so worried I dont know what to do. We have only been going down the Bio route for the last month, so Im very concerned. God Bless Sophie
Guest guest
Hi thanks for responding. His stools have been pretty much the same, in 3 weeks i think he may of had 3 solid stools but the rest have been his normal as we call " cement like " but not as smellly. Hes been eating GF bread with almond butter in the mornings ,for lunch either pasta rice with tomota sauces with veggies and chicken, sometimes chips (no coating) with chicken nuggets, mostly home made foods, for dinner, fish cakes , cottage pie, lasagne, risotto all with lots of veg, parsley and garlic. All the stuff I have mentioned is from the " Free From " range in our supermarkets. Thanks Sophie > > > > > > > My son has been on a GFCF diet for 25 days, our biomed Dr put him on this > > diet and gave him 6 suppliments to take. > > > > Ive noticed more negatives than positives, which is really worrying me. > > > > I rang the Bio Dr yesterday to tell him that my son was showing more > > stimming signs, and that he his flapping his hands like crazy, and he never > > really used to flap his hands before he started this diet. Guest guest
HI Caryn Thanks for responding. I did mention that to my Dr and he said not to worry now, and to carry on. Guest guest
I was tempted to think it's a food sensitivity but if his poops haven't changed, then it's probably not another food sensitivity involving a gluten substitute. I'm just looking up some of these supplements. I can't seem to find what Mental Sharp is but the MediClear seems like it's a multi-vitamin. It looks like it has a lot of variables in it. I would try stopping that for a few days and see if anything changes. Any multi-vit with as many variables would definitely drive my dd up the wall with sensory issues. I gave my son a B-complex for a day and it was a nightmare -- it was bad wth my dd but my son was tired but couldn't sleep, meltdowns and eye stims galore. I had sworn off any multi-vits for my daughter but decided to try the B-complex once for my son -- OMG, he became another person with stimming behavior like spinning, increased OCD-like behavior with wanting me to label everything all day long, head shaking, irritability...and that was just one day, one dose of the B-complex. I looked out for it because a lot of other parents have mentioned that their kids have trouble with multi-vits, too. It could also be the soy in Nordic Naturals. Some people have problems with the trace of soy in it, others don't -- something to look at. HI Caryn Thanks for responding. I did mention that to my Dr and he said not to worry now, and to carry on. Guest guest
Hiya thanks for taking the time to reply. If I were to stop the mediclear for a couple of days, wont i be taking out some of the vits that he may be needing or is there something I could replace this with? Also another thing to add is that my son has recently had test results back saying that he was positive to cryptosporidium and h-pylori, he has been on amoxicillin and Norzol metronidazole for 5 days, butthe hand flapping started long before the meds, it started 4 days into the diet. Guest guest
Hi Sophie,My son did no stimming at all before we started GFCF. The first time I saw him spin, it was after we started GFCF. I couldn't understand why but now I know what caused it in our case. The GFCF alternative products, for example the breads, are really starchy. It caused my son's yeast/bad bacteria to flare causing stimming. After several months of that, we switched to the GAPS diet which allows no grains. All the stimming dissapeared quickly with that diet.My son improved a lot on the GFCF though. Within a month his speech doubled and he could do several things he couldn't do before, for example, riding a tricycle.Gen My son has been on a GFCF diet for 25 days, our biomed Dr put him on this diet and gave him 6 suppliments to take. Ive noticed more negatives than positives, which is really worrying me. I rang the Bio Dr yesterday to tell him that my son was showing more stimming signs, and that he his flapping his hands like crazy, and he never really used to flap his hands before he started this diet. Guest guest
Life circumstances have made me hate cooking. I used to love it. I grew up and had to deal with non-adventurous people who refuse to eat things. It has made me loathe the process.Anyway, because of this, I take the easy way out. A LOT. Here is easy spaghetti squash. Buy squash. :-)Place in oven, 350 degrees, about 60-80 minutes. Yes I realize this is not exact. I wing it every time and it usually turns out fine.Turn the squash if it looks like it's getting overdone on one side. Remove, let it cool a bit so you can handle it. Slice lengthwise. You will see in the center " pumpkin goo " with seeds and strings.Delicately use a fork to try to get out the seeds and wet looking nasties. While pulling out the nasties, you may notice some regular strands of squash coming up... that is what will be your noodles. Now use the fork to scrape (with the tines) to pull up lots of stringy noodles (everything except the wet goo and seeds can make noodley stuff) What I do is make sure the kids don't get the stuff that is either too wet or not noodle-y enough. I eat that.Top with your favorite spaghetti topping. We use tomato and meat sauce. You can use butter/ghee/margarine. There is a more labor intensive way to make it.Split the squash in half lengthwise while it's raw. Remove gunk. Stick it face down in a glass pan of water and bake 350 degrees, ~ 60 mins. This way you won't have to pick apart the goo when it's baked. I have a hard time cutting a raw squash so I do it my way. The easiest way to describe a spaghetti squash is the bright yellow " uninteresting " looking squash. It is oval, maybe football sized. Almost every supermarket has them. Choose a small one at first in case no one likes it. Bake it about an hour, not the 80 or 90 mins. Acorn squash are super easy too, good for desserts and breakfasts. Guest guest
That's when the body starts releasing (or detoxingng) the pathogens in your body. While it's not always a pretty sight, it's a very good sign that your treatment plan is working. To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Mon, March 7, 2011 10:43:06 AMSubject: Re: More Hand Flapping & Stimming?? Guest guest
It's like what Tammy said. Not sure if you've ever sealed up a piece of uncooked meat in a bag in the summer and put it in the garbage. As it decomposes, the sealed bag will begin to expand because the meat (which used to be living matter) is decomposing and releasing gases and liquids as it breaks down. Microorganisms release the same things when they die. And that stuff affects our kids. You could try giving your son some activated charcoal to see if it'll absorb some of the die-off toxins and see if it helps with stimming. The die off would likely be from the antibiotics killing all the icky stuff. Thanks for responding and explaining. Kind Regards Sophie > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My son has been on a GFCF diet for 25 days, our biomed Dr put him > > > on > > > > > this diet and gave him 6 suppliments to take. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Ive noticed more negatives than positives, which is really worrying > > > me. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I rang the Bio Dr yesterday to tell him that my son was showing > > > more > > > > > stimming signs, and that he his flapping his hands like crazy, and he > > > never > > > > > really used to flap his hands before he started this diet. Guest guest
Thank you so much for responding and giving me more of an understanding. It is so awful what our little ones are going through, and I feel so useless, and want to get the correct help for my son. He doesnt have much speech, so its so hard to tell if he is in any pain, he is always so happy, we would never of known of any of these problems if we hadnt gone to a Biomedical doctor. He finished his antibiotics today, but we have noticed a slight rash on his body, a bit like a heat rash, and its also on his face but its not red on his face it loos like dry little spots? So much is going on with him, I think Im just scared we are doing the right thing for him. Thank you all for your advice. |God Bless Sophie > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My son has been on a GFCF diet for 25 days, our biomed Dr put > > him > > > > > on > > > > > > > this diet and gave him 6 suppliments to take. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Ive noticed more negatives than positives, which is really > > worrying > > > > > me. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I rang the Bio Dr yesterday to tell him that my son was > > showing > > > > > more > > > > > > > stimming signs, and that he his flapping his hands like crazy, > > and he > > > > > never > > > > > > > really used to flap his hands before he started this diet. Guest guest
Sophie, make sure you get good probiotics into him starting right this minute. I can't say for certain, but the rash could be die-off as well. Also, I don't think he's in pain as he probably wouldn't spend so much time smiling. You'd probably see a lot of tantruming that would seem to be "out of the blue" if pain/chronic pain was an issue. Just keep chugging along, momma....good things just might come your way : ) -tammy To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Mon, March 7, 2011 5:39:09 PMSubject: Re: More Hand Flapping & Stimming?? Guest guest
Thank you so much for the info Tammy. I have been on the phone to the Dr this morning and he is getting some Probiotics ready for my son, he also said he would like to start my son on Valtrex in the next few weeks, he says there is now so much more medical evidance that the antivaral way is the right way, America and other countries are so more aware of this, England is quite a way behind you guys, but at least I can pass on my experience as well now. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. Guest guest
Sophie, be ready with a good yeast protocol. Make sure you and your doc have a plan in place before you start the Valtrex. Don't start them together, though. Space them apart atleast by a couple of weeks. Good luck! Hope you see good stuff from it : ) -tammy To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Tue, March 8, 2011 6:26:04 AMSubject: Re: More Hand Flapping & Stimming?? Thank you so much for the info Tammy. Guest guest
Sophie, this is probably obvious but make sure you check that the probiotic doesn't have strep in it -- I dunno, from what I heard from parents with PANDAS kids, when they're this young, don't play with fire by introducing strep into the equation when you don't have to. Sophie, be ready with a good yeast protocol. Make sure you and your doc have a plan in place before you start the Valtrex. Don't start them together, though.
