Guest guest
Tammy, how far apart did you space the antifungal and Valtrex? I have yeast more or less under control at this moment (although, sadly, with our kids it can change at the drop of a hat)...just curious how you're taking the antiviral, too. Are you pulsing it or taking it straight through the course of the treatment? Sophie, be ready with a good yeast protocol. Make sure you and your doc have a plan in place before you start the Valtrex. Don't start them together, though. Space them apart atleast by a couple of weeks. Good luck! Hope you see good stuff from it : ) -tammy To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Tue, March 8, 2011 6:26:04 AMSubject: Re: More Hand Flapping & Stimming?? Thank you so much for the info Tammy. Guest guest
Atleast two weeks apart. It's very good that you're going into this with yeast not being much of a problem. But Valtrex does cause it to flare. You don't want to wait for that to happen then find yourelf or your doc scrambling to get something in place. Be prepared. It would be great if you could get him to write the rx for you at the same time as you get the Valtrex - that way you already have it on hand if/when you need it. Check out cheryl's blogspot ( Gryffins-tail.blogspot.com). She's got lots of great info there. We haven't worked up to Valtrex, yet. Was using naturals (and seeing good things)but stopped to start with a clean slate when we started with our dan. So, I'll save that for someone with experience -tammy To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Tue, March 8, 2011 9:13:07 AMSubject: Re: Re: More Hand Flapping & Stimming?? Guest guest
We had the diflucan talk with our DAN when we talked about Valtrex at our last visit and he agreed that he was going to start Maia on Diflucan for 5 days first before starting Valtrex. I was ready to go diving face first into Valtrex that day but held off to do some more reading/preparing first. I was just wondering what other people were doing, and if I'm missing anything. I'm doing some OLE, lysine and Virastop right now to start kicking the virus' a$$ a bit before hitting it with The Big Valtrex Boy. We don't quite have functional speech yet and I'm hoping that it will regulate the methylation component for us, too. Atleast two weeks apart. Guest guest
I know, you feel obligated to receive it now but I would tell them that you're just not comfortable with it. Just because many (not all) ASD kids are prone to PANDAS and I've heard some parents say that looking back, they felt that a probiotic with strep in it triggered the PANDAS in their kids. Of course, some kids aren't PANDAS prone, but it's too early to know for sure at this point with everything else going on -- I just feel that introducing strep into their system is just playing with fire. There are other probiotics out there that don't have strep. Personally, I'd err on the side of caution when it comes to strep. Some people do use probiotics with strep in it for their kids without problems, but if it were me, I wouldn't chance it. You can order one online or go to the HFS and find one that doesn't have strep in it. Strep would be listed as " streptococcus thermophilus " or " streptococcus <bacteria name> " or " S. thermophilus " or " S. <bacteria name> " . These are over the counter products that don't need a prescription. Lots of people use the Klaire Labs Detoxification Support one that doesn't have strep. I've used Genestra brands (HMF Neuro Powder and the HMF Forte) that don't have strep. I've used Culturelle. Custom Probiotics makes several that don't have strep (but watch out for the yogurt culture formulas that do have strep). Or you could go with a brand that your local health food store carries but just check the labels first. Hia Thanks so much for responding. I rang the pharmacist at the Drs and asked her if the probiotic had strep in it and she said " Yes it does, but its beneficial " Now Im really confused, I have never heard of Strep? Guest guest
no! no! no! It is a beneficial strain to you and I and most of the population...but NOT for Pandas kids or kids who show signs of pandas. If you're not sure about pandas...DON'T give this to your child. If the doc won't change the rx, you're better off getting one over the counter. Make sure it's refigerated (if they get hot and warm, they are no longer "alive" ) or you can make your own coconut kefir water easy breezy and cheap. I'm usually not so forceful with my opinions, but with this, I'm practically begging. (bad spelling she only told me the name of it over the phone)ALso the porbiotics are out of stock at the mo, so they will post them out to us :(Thanks againSophie> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > My son has been on a GFCF diet for 25 days, our biomed> > Dr put> > > > > him> > > > > > > > on> > > > > > > > > > this diet and gave him 6 suppliments to take.> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > Ive noticed more negatives than positives, which is> > really> > > > > worrying> > > > > > > > me.> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > I rang the Bio Dr yesterday to tell him that my son was> > > > > showing> > > > > > > > more> > > > > > > > > > stimming signs, and that he his flapping his hands like> > crazy,> > > > > and he> > > > > > > > never> > > > > > > > > > really used to flap his hands before he started this diet.> > The Dr> > > > > said> > > > > > > > it> > > > > > > > > > could either be that his stomache is inflamed or that he is> > > > > getting> > > > > > > > more> > > > > > > > > > aware and his senses are more active?> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > Has anyone heard of this,Im so worried I dont know what> > to> > > > > do.> > > > > > > > > > > > We have only been going down the Bio route for the last> > > > > month, so> > > > > > > > Im> > > > > > > > > > very concerned.> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > God Bless> > > > > > > > > > > > Sophie> > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > >> > >> >> >> > > >>

Guest guest
Hiya Thanks for taking the time to respond. Everyone is so kind for using there time to respond to me. I have told my husband to ask the Dr for a probiotic without strep, just to be on the safe side. If he doesnt have any joy at the Drs I will look into some over the counter products. Thank you very much. Guest guest
Yes....I know little about pandas. but SOMEitmes, tics(facial), throat clearing tics, and ocd can be signs. If your kiddo tends to get super severe behaviors when exposed to strep, that's also a good sign. Some pandas kids are completely normal, free of symptoms, until a strep flair. Then there will be trantrums and self injury and autistic-like behaviors. It's hard to catch in tests - I think there are very particular tests you must take within two weeks of an exposure. I also think it's more difficult to pinpoint in autistic kids where certain behaviors are already present. Check out pandas.net. There's loads of info there. I didn't mean to freak you out. For some reason, I was under the impression that pandas was suspected in your kiddo.... If there are no signs, symptoms, or reasons to worry, strep strains would be fine. I, personally, avoid them. Because I cant say with 100% certainty the cause of my kiddo's symptoms, I play it safe : ) -tammy To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Tue, March 8, 2011 11:55:50 AMSubject: Re: More Hand Flapping & Stimming?? Guest guest
It scares me because their immune systems are already weak at this point where we're addressing gut issues. To introduce strep at this point is just scary to me, now that I know what it can do. NT kids can get PANDAS, too. If I see no symptoms that they would react to strep, I may introduce a probiotic with it when they get older and their systems become stronger. Right now, because I think my child may have contracted a virus from their newborn vaccine indicates to me that their immune systems are atypical. I don't know in what exact ways they differ from typical immune systems, so I'm just not prepared to do it. But, then, again, I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to biomed. Start small and start slow is how I approach a lot of things and strep is just too scary for me. Sorry, Sophie, I didn't mean to freak you out either but strep scares the crap outta me.
