Guest guest
Oh,Tammy, I did that to myself some years ago also. Like you, I realized it almost immediately and drank a bunch of juice and got up every couple of hours to check the BG. I had to drink more juice a couple of hours later, but once the fast acting insulin ran out of its time period, I was okay. I have an insulin pump now, so that doesn't happen any more, but you are not alone.(P.S. I have been type 1 since the age of 2 and am now 69). _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Tammy Chrisman Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2012 9:23 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Am I the only one Once a year I do a very stupid thing, because I'm tired. Last night I took instead of my Lantis, I took my nova log, 20 units before I went to bed. I was glad my sugar was in the high 300's so I checked my sugar every half hour and kept drinking anything I could handle. I have been a diabetic since I was 5 and I'm 48 now so I'm definitely use to what I'm to do, just sometimes I get tired and don't pay attention. I have the insulin in different places and even have a rubber band around the fast acting. I'm glad that God is on my side and watches out for me. I can't go anyplace right now I have 3 grandkid's that need me and a daughter, I have stuff to do. So am I the only one that has done this? Guest guest
Hi Tammy, first I have to say, " God is good to us " and when I was on Insulin I also have done the same thing, taking the wrong one because I was not paying attention. being totally blind, having to always be on top of things, etc... it is very fustrating and exhausting at times, right? but as you say God is watching over his children, and he will never gives us more than what wwe can bare, and even though we are at our very last nerve or at the end, when we want to give up, he tugs at our hearts and brings us back where he needs us to be. So just keep your faith up, keep trusting him, and know that you are never alone. Sugar " ...And this I pray... Guest guest
Yes he does Mark, never forget, let us all never forget, as long as we do our part to meet him half way, we will be always on top. for he has never promised it would be easy, but it is our faith and trust that has him holding us ok, no more preaching, smile hugs to all sugar " ...And this I pray... Guest guest
I dread doing this very thing! It hadn't been a problem when I was using a pen for Humalog and my wife was fixing my Lantus injection at night with a syringe. But now that I use pens for both, well, it's something I have to monitor very thoughtfully. I'm sure you have a system, but take a good look at it to see if you can improve it. I would think your rubber band method works, and perhaps a mistake now and then is simply going to happen no matter what you do to protect against it. The important thing is, you realized it and dealt with it properly. Guest guest
Wow! I guess that could be serious. I am not on insulin yet but I take a big rubber band and put it around the pitcher that has my Crystal Light or Kool-aid with Splenda. 's pitcher with regular Kool Aid with sugar has no rubber band. But one night I was half asleep and poured him a glass of mine right into the glass he had lemon lime and he said Yuck what is this? I said Huh? And then Oh well.. you know. The SH word. But what if it had been the wrong medication? Makes you think. Lora Am I the only one Once a year I do a very stupid thing, because I'm tired. Guest guest
when I have a few things that look alike I get me a quart size zip lock baggy and keep the pen or what ever it is in the bag and I label the bag with a stick on label that I can Braille or have used dimo tape. If it is something you need to freeze and the label keeps falling off, then make the label and just drop it in the bag with the object. for me it doesn't take much more time to remove the pen or what ever from a labeled bag then it would to simply pick it up. this way I know exactly which one is in what bag and if it is always the same thing you continue to put in the baggy, then no need to change the label. I do all my freezer food this same way. I make a label and drop it in the gallon size zip lock with smaller baggies of hamburger meat or fish or chicken or what ever it is. I also date the label so I know when I purchased it and how long it has been frozen. this labeling bags of all sizes works for medicine and vitamins as well. if you do it as soon as you get a different medicine to take, then the job won't over whelm you if you have to do it all at once. some times guessing what some thing is or waiting until you can get a pare of eyes can be a pain to say the least. I label everything I got because I can't see and there isn't always around when I need them to tell me what it is. you can buy all sizes of bags that zip or slice at Sam's for a better price and you can use them for a long time. it would be hard to stick dimo tape on a flex pen, so I would go with the quart size zip lock bag my self. Guest guest
That is a good idea. I just bought a braille writer because the one I had since 1964 finally bit the dust. I am really careful what I use this one on now because I am hoping it is the last one I will ever need. It is not new but compared to what I had it is new.
