I'm a newbie like you are, but if it were me, I'd skip the shot and check my

sugar again first thing in the morning to see if it went up overnight or

stayed pretty much the same. I know some folks have the dawn affect where

their sugar goes up overnight but Personally, I don't have that.

my sugar right now before my shot of 17 units is 89. the doc office is now

closed or I could ask them. should I go on and take my 17 units with a sugar

of 89 or skip the dose to night? I'm faxing in the past 3 days of numbers to

the office tomorrow so they can see how much lower they have got since I

started taking the cinnamon. I'm having a bowl of turkey soup for dinner to

night. once before when it was this low at dinner and I had a soup that

night as well the 17 units took it down to 65 by bed time, so I ate a whole

orange and it went back up to 95. I felt better with it at 95 then I did at

65. actually I never felt shaky or bad, but I think in my personal opinion I

shouldn't take my 17 units to night at dinner with it being at 89 right now.

I know none of you are doctor's and I do understand that, but just asking

for some educated advice if you get this before I do my shot or not do my

shot. thanks.

If the soup has rice or noodles in it, it is probably okay to take the

insulin. You need to take the insulin at some point or your sugar will go

up during the night. If there is no carb in your soup, you probably should

eat a piece of bread or fruit. Be sure and check before bed and eat

something else if it is still low.

no rice and no pasta. just veggies and turkey, but I did eat 4 small wedges

of an orange. I do check at eight before I go to bed and if it is still low I do

eat some more orange to be safe. thank you very much.

We were out this evening and I missed your request for help. You've already

turned in for the night. I would have suggested cutting your dosage from 17 to

say, 14 or so. And, perhaps adding some carbohydrate in the form of fruit or a

starchy veggie like peas, or a serving of a healthy fiber bread product like

grain bread or brown rice. Eliminating 17 units is probably not the best thing,

but you are a t2 and you'll have a different reaction than I, as a t1, would

have.

Hello. You probably have had your shot by now but here is my advice

for the future.

I would not take any insulin if it is that low.

They told me not to take my oral medication if I got a low reading.

But I have to be careful because it will say Low without a good sample. So

I would only believe it if it says a number. It also says Your blood

Glucose and says a number. If it is a low sample it just says Blood Glucose

Low.

Hi Becky.

I was diagnosed T2 way back in 95 but had it pretty much under control with

oral meds and diet up until a few months ago. I started using Insulin last

month in a very low 10 unit dose once every evening for now.

000000 well I done what I believed was the best for me at the time. I cut my

dose to 12 instead of 17. I checked my sugar at eight when we get ready for bed

and it was 96. I ate nothing and went to bed. this morning my sugar was 98. I

faxed in my numbers for the past 3 days so the doc can decide how to adjust the

dose. it all worked out fine, but thanks to all anyway. I'm new at this insulin

pen stuff and learning from you guys and on the fly by watching my numbers each

day. they are all coming down and my average is slowly dropping. I do a weekly

average for my self so I will see what is happening. plus I keep a meal note

book of what I had and the sugar reading of that meal before and after. this way

if it is to low or to high I will know exactly what I ate and make the

adjustments I need to make. until I get a handle on it all I must do all this to

know where I've been and where I'm going. right now instead of just the four

times per day of finger sticking, I'm probably doing more like ten times. it is

kind of funny though when your meter gives you a reading that you think it to

high or low. so you do it again and maybe even a third time. none of the numbers

will ever agree. they may be close if your sugar is in that range, but other

then this not enough blood will make the numbers way off. as many times as I

have been checking the past 23 days it is getting harder to find a spot on a

finger that will give up the blood easy and quickly. hot water does help and

milking the finger helps as well. it certainly is a good thing that my prodigy

meter gives me a few minutes to get blood on the strip before it turns it self

off. there are times when I need the whole few minutes. remember, I'm still a

work in progress. have had diabetes since 2002, but never cared like I do now.

well like they say, better late then never!

Yu did good, Mark. You'll find, as a type 2, even though you're on insulin, your

bg readings will tend to be more consistent. There are things I liked about my

Prodigy Voice, but since I've been using the Solo V2, I have grown to appreciate

it's " insufficient blood " warning message. You might want to consider switching

to the Solo V2 at some point if you find you constantly have trouble getting

good blood samples.

I may do this when I run out of my strips that I got now. this is a bad thing

about the prodigy. you don't know if you have enough blood or not except by the

reading you get.
