Guest guest
It's not a scam....they've been around for a ling time.Alison in MASent from my iPhone Hey just curious if anyone has dealt with these people before. I call to talk to someone. they say they have a free consultation. then when you call up -you talk to an appt setter who opens an account for you? wants all your contact info, name address email, etc... and childs name, date of birth, etc... before you ever even get to talk to someone about whether or not its a match or a possibility. SOUNDS FISHY!! Unfortunately, i had already been sold on the idea by the website info and was willing to spend the money for treatment and training but now i am too concerned to move ahead. Its sounds like some big sales gimmick- i felt really uncomfortable like it was a scam shannon

Guest guest
I have no experience with them, but they've been around for many many years. Decades. Your experience would probably turn me off, too. They may use an "admissions" person (much like your career, tech, and vocational schools do.) It's almost always commission-based. Basically, its their job to follow up, then follow up somemore with you to get you through the door. Think of an army recruiter and how they just don't go away lol! Not a good approach if that's the case here. I'd come right out and ask. They're probably not going to skip town with your money, though. -tammy To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Wed, March 9, 2011 1:52:01 PMSubject: very suspicious son-rise program Hey just curious if anyone has dealt with these people before. Guest guest
We have been doing SonRise for my son and we love it! One of the best things so far we have done for him (besides the bio-medical approach). I don't remember what they asked me the first time I called them but probably the reason they asked you for your contact info is because they send free DVD's with videos of basically to get the idea what SonRise is and if you think it is appropriate for your child. Guest guest
I want to throw in my 2 cents on SonRise. I watched the videos and I talked to a parent who is having great success with the program...their child is very involved but this program is the first time in years they've had any success with bonding, eye contact, and beginnings of interaction. I called the program and had my free consultation, under the guise that I am a therapist looking to add SonRise to my practice (which is true, but I was also considering it for my son which I did not mention to them). The whole process had a little bit of cultish feel to it, and I can see why people are suspicious. the program seems to be a wonderful way to love, respect, and bond with your child, especially if you have not had the good fortune to bond previously. I love the attitude that I am not trying to " fix " my son, but rather accept and love him, and help guide him gently to interact more with us in our world, rather than stay inside his own. That said, it's a lot lot lot lot lot of money for someone to tell me to love my child and to be more respectful of him instead of pushing and forcing him so much. We changed our approach and immediately things were calmer, less stressful at home, and our son was so much happier. Understand that we were not being cruel before, we were just pushing him to succeed, mostly out of fear for his future. But I also have the benefit of being a therapist and working " in the biz " so I don't need to be taught how to design a program or how to slowly change the activities to help DS join us, expand his play skills, or try new things without feeling like we took away all his stuff. If you do need this, and you have the money and the incredible amount of time you'll need, then it sounds like a wonderful program. I have several families who are looking into it. I am a big supporter of " whatever works, go for it. " Just my humble opinion! R > > > > Hey just curious if anyone has dealt with these people before. Guest guest
What your saying probably applies to the general population... I am sure I see it in NT families too, where the kids are pushed hard to be successful and not enjoyed for the children they are.I guess it's like a lot of therapies... you can do it at home for cheaper if YOU can do it. Like, it's cheaper to homeschool then to send to private school, but can you mentally be there every moment to do the " job " and not be frustrated and tired? Some of us can't be there to do these things, and have to rely on therapy. Last night we had our first RDI session for my son... well mostly it was me talking about our history. But anyway, it seems silly that I can't do this at home... but there ya go! LOL I want to throw in my 2 cents on SonRise. Guest guest
What is RDI? Yes I agree completely. I would love to homeschool, but there is just no way it would happen. And I take my son to a different therapist even though I could do the therapy myself...because I don't do it myself and he won't work for me. At least he's normal in that area!! Thanks, about SonRise, yes that was my point that I didn't convey very well...we want our kids to be successful in all areas and when there is autism or another problem, in the panic to recover him, it's easy to go overboard. We were being too strict, trying to prevent him from stimming/perseverating on things, trying to teach him what normal behavior was. Then we realized...if we let him draw the same picture every night, and sing the same song to him in his way every night, he goes right up, ready for bed with no protesting, so happy and sweet. If we refuse him these stupid little things, he is just so sad and upset. Duh!! I just hope people go into a program like SonRise with their eyes and ears open and their brains turned on, rather than clinging desperately to something because they want it to help so badly. Easier said than done though, says the mom with a cabinet full of supplements and a closet full of therapy equipment! > > > > > > > > Hey just curious if anyone has dealt with these people before. Guest guest
Whenever I start to worry about my son's future and what it might hold for him, I remind myself of one of my favorite scriptures: "..add to your faith virtue, knowledge, self -control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love... for if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful...." 2 1:5-8 I hope this brings the same peace for you all as it does for me : ) -tammy To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, March 10, 2011 8:54:32 AMSubject: Re: very suspicious son-rise program What is RDI?Yes I agree completely.
