Guest guest
Lots of factors to consider. How often to you crash into things? What objects are in your house which might cause serious injury to your feet? If you have children--toddlers--and you've got small toys scattered around which are often impossible to keep picked up, you might be more likely to step on something. Also, how tough are your feet? How healthy are you? Getting a small cut on a foot isn't necessarily a serious problem, unless you are really in poor diabetic health. Do you have good circulation? If so, you're probably prone to heal better. The same thing if you are younger, versus older. Guest guest
Hi, well I seem to be in pretty good shape now. I don't have kids, yet, but i do want some but that is for another list. But anyhow, my feet aren't that tough but there is nothing to step on in this house really, nothing that would cause a problem anyway. later -- My skype is scott20122012 Have a great day! 73's kb0clz Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network. Guest guest
Hi , shold i say what I should or what I do? w well I go barefoot much less than before I had diabetes. I try to remember, but round the house I often go barefoot, and we have toys from grand kids but I got used to that when my kids were little. I also take the dog out barefoot, that would be me and dog barefoot, but keep near the driveway and put him on a chain and go back in, so there isn't much that can happen. Sometimes in the grass I take my shoes off in the summer, but I find that wearing sandalls gives the same feeling of freedom and fresh air. Guest guest
Hello , I had a terrible foot infection from a blister I got from wearing a pair of Crox shoes. I almost lost my foot. But I have been type 1 since the age of 2, so I am very cautious of going barefoot except for the shower. I do walk around my house sometimes, but I ask my husband to check for dog toys etc. first. Guest guest
Hi Scot: I know from my diabetic doctor as well as the diabetic nurses here that i should not walk barefoot. When I come home from being out though, I can hardly wait to get those shoes and sox off. My feet feel like they are burning and I just can't stand anything on my feet. Even those thin little slippers are to much for my feet. Sometimes I have to soak my feet in luke warm or cool water just to make things barable. On the od occasion that my feet do get cold I will wear sox. those times are few and far between though. Anyone else have this problem or solutions for them? yesterday is history. Tomorrow a mystery. Today is a gift, that is why it is called the present. diabetics and going barefoot Hi all. I have heard that people do not tend to run around their house barefoot. Guest guest
I am a little scared. I have had tough skin on my heels for a long time and never thought about it much. But after finding out I was a diabetic last June, it has been burning and hurting and when the skin peels it does not heal right. Dr. said it looked like pink skin in there and it didn't look like anything to worry about. When he had my ankle and leg and foot X-rayed in September he said it was arthritis. He just gave me tramadol or however you spell it for pain and swelling. I have tried to keep footies on my feet and sometimes it keeps the skin softer and sometimes I put cream on there. But it sometimes really hurts and it scares me because i hear all these horror stories of people losing feet. I know I have gone barefoot almost all the time and I should not have. We never go anywhere and in the last year the only time I went out was to go to lunch with my daughter and my friend. We plan to go about twice a year because it is a nice break for me and about the only time I spend with the girl firend and daughter too. Dr. told me to have my son wash out 's stomach where he has the feeding tube with 50 percent wter and 50 percent peroxide. Would that work with me soaking my foot in that? Or would the pain be too much to bear. I wonder if I should wrap up the foot? I did last July some and it helped a little. Maybe I am being fearful and making too much of it. but I would have thought it would have gotten much better by now. The area has spread some too. It is going behind my heel a little besides underneath the bottom. And of course I have the problem of leaving home if I had to go to a foot doctor because someone has to monitor . diabetics and going barefoot > > > > Hi all. > I have heard that people do not tend to run around their house barefoot. > They say it is not good to do because u might step on something that > hurts your feet ie causes an infection or problem. > > I however go barefoot all the time anymore. > The only time I am not barefooted is when i go somewhere. > What do others have to say on this subject. > Btw, I do have a scar of my right foot but it is from the leg braces > that i ware to walk. Guest guest
I once had insoles made and found my feet burned as you mentioned. I found out that the soles were made from plastic. this causes the feet to burn. so seriously look at what your shoes or materials that touch the bottoms of your feet. cheap shoes would do this to me. diabetics and going barefoot Hi all. Guest guest
By the time I was six years old I learned how to prevent loosing toe nails. There is nothing more excrutiatingly painful than running into a root, stump or rock, and having it almost knock off your toenail, but not quite. Then It had to be pulled the rest of the way off by hand or pliars. For me wearing shoes stopped all of those accidents. Occum's Rasor,Harry Abolish private property vote Democrat. Guest guest
It sounds like you have bad calluses on your heels. When they crack, they take a long time to heel. You could use some softening cream put on a couple times of day and then wear a soft slipper to protect the heels. Soaking them in Epson's salt (not a strong solution) followed by the cream would help those calluses soften up and eventually go away. It would be better for you to see a podiatrist, but I understand the circumstances. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Lora Leggett Sent: Monday, March 26, 2012 8:08 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: diabetics and going barefoot I am a little scared. Guest guest
Well , You sound like a young person with a good vascular system. I have been diabetic for 67 years and the docs call me a " vascular disaster " . I am lucky to be alive and walking still! But do be careful because you never know what bacteria can be lurking in your home. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Sent: Tuesday, March 27, 2012 11:08 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: diabetics and going barefoot Hi i don't blame u. It is good that u did nt loose your foot. Like i said i got a open blister 3 or 4 years ago but that was from the leg braces i wear when i go somewhere. -- Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network.
