Guest guest
I know there has been some recent discussion about botox and I wanted to tell you my experience with it. I have now gotten by second round of botox, injected directly into the neck muscles and base of my skull. I cannot tell you how much relief this has given me for muscle spasms. It has been a wonder drug. It last about 3-4 months and makes a world of difference. It was done by my neuro opthomologist. If you would like more information I would be glad to share. Guest guest
I had been reading on the NVA website about the experimental trials going on with Botox for VV. I am the first to admit that I don't know a lot about it...but I know that Botox is a very popular cosmetic drug and that the company that supplies it makes loads of money. Doesn't anyone find it umm...strange...that this is being recommended for VV? How would it help? And considering how little we know about the cause of different vulvar pain, is it really right to be taking a risk like this? And using these band-aid solutions? Call me a bit of a feminist but I'm suspicious of treatments that make no long-term sense, cost a lot, have unknown side effects on the female body, and are supplied by massive drug companies for cosmetic practise. I just think it's strange and we should be maybe a bit more critical of it. Not saying what is right or wrong, but obviously I have my bias. Guest guest
I have tried botox into the muscle for the vaginismus. My doc felt that it was worth a shot (before I was actually diagnosed with VV) because he felt that if my muscle was not tightneing up, I may be able to retrain my tissues to get used to contact and maybe it may help if the muscles were relaxed. At first it was very tight but as I tried to do it a bit longer (very painfully, it loosened up and did make it easier but I still had the horrible pain. That is how I knew that it was not because of the muscle as to why I was suffering. It cost me $1100 for one visit since insurance would not cover it stating that it is a cosmetic procedure...haha!! cosmetic??? I wanted so bad to have a pretty vagina that I decided on botox, please....these insurance companies are too much! Anyway, it was done 2 times and did not do anything to help. just in my situation, each one may be different. > > Has anyone tried the botox? > > It seems like a good idea, however, wouldn't it wear off? > > >
Guest guest
Hi Miranda, I think Botox is helpful in nerve problems. I don't believe this is the pharmaceutical industry stepping into an area they shouldn't. I think it deadens nerves or at least quiets them temporarily. I know a woman who lost her voice the day her husband died. For 20 years she couldn't speak at all. Then she tried a botox injection in/near the larynx and she got her voice back. I don't understand the neuropsychology behind that one - but it happened to my aunt's mother in law. I am excited about this possibility. Guest guest
Hi. Botox paralyzes the muscles, according to Dr. Zolnoun. I think this would help with the muscle spasm. > > Hi Miranda, > > I think Botox is helpful in nerve problems. Guest guest
Hi Lia, Did you get the name of a dr to do botox injections from the PTs at Beyond Basics? If I remember right, I think you go there too. They want me to see a Dr. Coady, but I don't want to b/c I have never heard of her on these lists and she is out of network and I have seen over 23 gyns anyway so what can she do. I think they said she does nerve blocks but I am not sure about Botox. If you know please fill me in! THANKS, Sandi No need to miss a message. Get email on-the-go with Yahoo! Mail for Mobile. Guest guest
Those are all valid points, and everyone has the right to pursue their own treatment. I am just very skeptical, especially after the side effects found with lidocaine and other skin numbing creams. Doctors used to say accutane was safe, but there are potentially damaging side effects with that too. I just find it best to err on the side of caution with our bodies. Not every medication is the right one for us, and I'm skeptical of doctors who tell you there are no side effects, when in fact it is just that there are no KNOWN side effects. My problem with botox is that not enough studies have been done on it. Yes, it seems it can numb your nerve endings. But will that effect a woman's orgasm during sex? Will it affect the way she feels pleasure? In the studies that I have read, it specifically notes that these things had not yet been studied in detail. That is my main concern with it. Guest guest
I was told that Dr. Goldstein is using botox now... or perhaps referring patients for it.
