Guest guest
Cheryl, thank you for all this wonderful iodine info. My husband and I have some 2% Lugol's and we take 5 drops daily. I had my first experience with die-off and it was rough. I was so mean to my family! Headaches, drowsiness, groggy-ness. I can only imagine how my son feels every time we increase his supplements. I am giving my 35 pound son 1-2 drops daily. He gets his magnesium in a cream, and his selenium, E, and a little C in his multi. He also takes GSE...we use it for yeast, but it's alos an excellent antioxidant as I understand. since we started this a week or 10 days ago, he's had the best week! Speech is just flying out of his mouth, up to 6 words at a time! He is happier, more playful, demanding that we interact with him and pay attention to him. Teachers are gushing about his attention and behavior. It has to be the iodine! The only other thing we do that is new is his listening program called ILS, and that is done 3-4 times per week, new each session. I suppose it could be the ILS, but more likely the iodine. Questions: since our Lugol's is 2%, I thought I was giving about 3mg of iodine per drop. Is that correct? Also, in Dr. Brownstein's book he recommends ..11mg/pound/per day for children, so my son would get 3 mg or so and my daughter, a 22 pound soaking wet 2 year old, I give 1 drop every few days. I read here from Cheryl that 6-12 mg is what is used for children by many families. I am afraid to go that high! Can someone advise? I mean, that's the dose I am giving myself! thanks to all...I learn so much on this site...just wish I could keep up with the posts better! Guest guest
Hi , 6-12mg is for children. You have toddlers :-) I didnt know the book had the per pound dosage. Cant remember ever hearing it mentioned before now. I havent read his book yet. Only had seen recommended numerous times the 6-12mg for children. I think the being mean is adrenals Which could be trying to cope with the stress of dieoff and removal of halides. You might increase your natural salt a little. You didnt mention salt, and natural salt is very important. If you start feeling like people are annoying you for no good reason, or even a minor one, drink a little salt water followed by more water and symptoms (and cause) should go away. The headache is very common the first few weeks without enough salt. Probably pulling some worm out the brain! Making sure enough mag, salt and C and lots of water does make the difference in how you feel getting the bad stuff out. I dont know that i would use GSE as an antioxident. It does kill all the good bacteria in the gut if you use it that way. Transdermal doesnt. I am a major fan of GSE, use to use it almost daily. It makes a very good household dicsenfectant, too. I have seen no signs of yeast since after a few months on iodine, your cases may be different, but i think most are able to establish nice gut flora in a few months to a year (perhaps longer for the really damaged) if there arent things added that disturb it. The 2% Lugols has 2.4 to 2.7 mg per drop. It depends on who you ask, how old the bottle is, etc. And why i usually just round off to 3mg. I am in no way precise about how much iodine i take.I may take 45mg one day and 55mg the next. I try to stay around 50mg both ingested and transdermal. Close enough is good enough for me. If being precise is important and i get that for some it is, i would use the 2.7mg per drop. That seems to be the most accurate i think. So at 2 drops that would be 5.4mg and the books suggested dosage would be 3.85 mg or 4mg if you use my math ;-) You could give 1 drop ingested and use 1-2 drops transdermal for the boy, mixing it with his mag cream would work. I mix mine with magnesium chloride on a pad. Many do find that more is better. Because iodine not only kills the stuff, more means it also helps remove the waste and when there is totally enough in the body it can displace the halides from the cells. Many adults find that 50mg is so much better than 35mg or less, especially in the first few months until sufficiency. Healthier people, with good nutrition need less. The Low Oxalate Diet and avoiding goitrogens also effects how much your body will need and utilize. I would stay steady at one dosage for a while(1-3months) and see how it goes, how much improvement. Takes a little time. Not an overnight fix. Then you can increase as their weight increases or if you are still seeing issues add another drop. Guest guest
You probably were killin stuff! Makes a body tired gettin it out. You are using LOD too so consider that you are utilizing it better than someone who isnt. Stay steady with the 5 drops if you are comfortable with that for several weeks or so then increase by one drop at a time. I find taking my dosage spread out over morning and afternoon helps to avoid the drop in levels, which can cause tiredness, too. You may want to try tyrosine if you arent already taking it. It helps the iodine, too. Cheryl > > 10 drops yesterday, and I was tired by 6pm. Guest guest
Yeah maybe if I up it to 10 drops I will do it 5 and 5.I am waiting on my daughter's antibodies results so I can see if I can start with the iodine on her. She has Hashimoto's so I think iodine supp in Hashi's is controversial. Â You probably were killin stuff! Makes a body tired gettin it out. Guest guest
Question Cheryl. Yesterday, since OJ is now part of his morning, I moved my 1 drop of Lugol's to dinner time. Over bfast & lunch he had his new multi (powerteen by nature's plus). Last night he asked for an epsom salt bath (he's been doing this the past couple nights and listens to his iPod in there) When he got out he started complaining about his back itching...it went on into the wee hours eventually spinning his anxiety all the way to panic (someplace we haven't been in a while). He wasn't red and not complaining of being hot, just crazy sensitive on his skin, eventually even his face and scalp. Finally after a klonopin at 1a, I had to give benedryl at 2a just to get him to sleep. The new multi has 50mg niacinamide, he also had mag during the day. Have you ever heard of an episode of itchiness coming from anything iodine related? He only had about a 1.5 c of epsom salts in the bath and also about a cup of baking soda. When he woke up this morning he was fine. I'm way too old for this...Many thanks! To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, March 3, 2011 1:00:13 PMSubject: Re: Mossy Cheryl re: iodine: results and questions! Guest guest
Triquench is iodide only. Lugols And Iodoral are iodine and iodide combo. There is debate over which is better, with most saying you need both the iodide and iodine. The body is able to convert iodide to iodine for some areas, not for others. Guest guest
Some people do have rashes as part of viral dieoff. And other bacteria and fungus dieoff too. And maybe the iodine combined with Epsoms is working to pull even more. Epsoms is very good at drawing out toxins. Its possible it drew them out and then stayed on him. If this is a new occurance and he hadnt used Epsoms before then it may be the Sulfate irritating him. Epsoms can make me itchy at times. Rinsing off after the epsoms salt bath might be a good idea. Hard to know about rashes without seeing the rash. But a very common part of the process. Dilute few drops of iodine in warm water and use it as a wash over the rash can help with itchy. Guest guest
Tammy, it's funny but even in the tub, he has to take his feet out of the water (and rest them on the ledge of the tub). The water makes the bottom of his feet itch mercilessly. He had NO rash last night, just insane itching just on his back, not lets that were also in the water. He's been taking ES baths for years, this is a first. I was just wondering if there might be some involvement with the iodine since that's the newest addition to his lineup. He's blaming the bath and I don't think he'll be taking one again for awhile. ugh. They get crazy headstrong when they get older. Guest guest
thanks Cheryl. We're using triquench to help my daughter's hyperthyroid and it's been helping her detox. Now that her numbers are within range I don't know how much longer we can use it. We did decrease her dose. Re: Mossy Cheryl re: iodine: results and questions! Triquench is iodide only. Guest guest
wow - that's crazy. You'd think if it made someone itchy in one place, it would make them itchy other places, too. There never seems to be an end to the enigmas that are our children : ) I wonder if he release toxins mostly out of the bottom of his feet?? Cheryl gave you some really good advice. I second having him rinse off (if you can get him back in the tub....I know what that's like : ) Either that or did you recently switch bathroom cleaners or laundry detergents that could've made his skin more sensitive? -tammy To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, March 3, 2011 7:26:33 PMSubject: Re: Re: Mossy Cheryl re: iodine: results and questions! Guest guest
I think itching can be a sign of die off. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.
