Guest guest
My son is now 4.5 yo, it's been 12 months since started biomedical stuff, he has improved a lot, a lot! but yet he still is echolalic, he is the kind of kid that regreses when gets a cold. so we'd been up and down, there was a time when he wasn't echolalic anymore.Don't get so discourage, echolalia is not such a bad stuff, cheer up! it just means that he is verbal and that he is learning to talk, so it is a good thing, keep going with the supplements and therapies, he'll get so much better, I did noticed a big change in my son with speech therapy 1:1 it kind of gave him more ways to answer questions. And him telling you about his day at school, that is a tough one! yet it will come. this a conversation with my son:Hi Honey, what did you do at school today? -what did you do at school today? Did you play with your friends?-Did you play with your friends?... silence... Bryden pull and push the ball... Ye play with Darren and Chloe... I like the library at the school... let me check my lunch box!and he runs to get his lunch box. and almost everyday is a different answer. He was nonverbal a year ago! and just 2 months ago he wasn't answering questions about his day at school at all. I notice that if give him a bit more time between questions he gives better answers.and also your son is growing up, he'll learne to answer and he'll get rid of echolalia, cheer up mom! think about it as a good thing!SashaTo: mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, March 3, 2011 10:05:20 PMSubject: Re: Still so much Echolalia & scrolling, when will ever stop? Hi Irma, I'm new to the group so don't have any advice on how to make it stop per se, but I'm an SLP and I wonder if your son is using picture exchange? If not, I would ask that they start using this at school and train you to use it at home. Most echolalia is a failure to understand what is being asked. The use of a visual system supports that understanding and also allows your child to communicate with you. His teacher/slp can write a list of three big things he did in the day and when he comes home with his picture system he can choose from a selection to tell you what he did. And since the teacher has written to you, you'll know if he is being accurate or random. The teacher/slp can rehearse this with him before he leaves school too.
