Guest guest
Best treatment for YEAST? My 11 yo son has been on two flagyl treatments and two fungal drugs since last May. He has never really broken out in a rash like I see on may kids to indicate he had YEAST initially. The reason we did the first round of treatments (June 2010) was because of the yeast showing up in his urine and stool tests. We also started the SCD, low oxalate diet last May to stop 'feeding the yeast.' The second round of yeast treatment (changed to fluconazole) was done last December because my son developed a rash on his buttocks that wasn't clearing -- it was small but persistent. It took a while but the rash did begin to fade. I did notice that while doing the December fluconazole treatment my son became very irritable and aggressive a few days into the treatment. I gave him charcoal capsules and that seemed to help. The doctor then gave him another flagyl treatment. By the end of this treatment our son became very constipated with stool that was much harder and not as easy for him to pass. Prior to this I should tell you that he had always had an issue with constipation but his stools were never hard or compacted just l-o-n-g and mussy/smelly. We have always had to resort to using suppositories if he had not had a bowel movement in 3 days. It was clear that he needed to clear his bowels by this timeframe because he would become aggressive and irritable. With this change in his stools (becoming hard) after the flagyl he was having an even harder time passing them. We were still able to get him to go every 3-4 days with the suppositories but he was in a lot more daily pain -- even after having a bowel movement. We got an x-ray of his abdomen and he was EXTREMELY COMPACTED! I am now certain that he has always been this FULL but because the stool was softer he wasn't in as much pain. He ended up in the hospital when the pain became too much for a bowel cleanout. We were told it normally takes an adult 24 hours to clear their bowels with Go-Lightly but it took 72 hours to clear our son! We finally get home and we start back with the SCD diet. With the help of Miralax he is now producing DAILY bowel movements. We are thrilled...until he breaks out in a rash. The rash progressively gets worse and our son's behaviors are out of control -- he's non-compliant, aggressive and seems to be in pain again! You can see a picture of the rash on his buttocks in the " PHOTOS " section (if the administrator allows it to post). I could have also submitted a picture of the rash around his genitals but wasn't sure if it would get posted. Nonetheless...I now suspect it is YEAST! How can this be? He had a complete bowel cleanout and started back on a very strict, controlled SCD diet! Is it possible that he is going through a natural yeast die-off after the bowel cleanout? He has also been way out of control -- again aggressive and irritable. Because of this rash, we are doing another 21 day fluconazole treatment. Yesterday was day three and he was in awful pain -- acting out aggressively. I gave him a charcoal capsule and he seemed feel much better. This morning I fed him his breakfast and gave him another charcoal capsule before school just in case he would have the same reaction as he did yesterday. For the first time in two weeks since the bowel cleanout my son came home with an EXCELLENT report -- NO AGGRESSION!!! After viewing the rash in the photos, do you think it is yeast? I just want to KICK this yeast so bad! If it is yeast I'm sure my son has had it for a long time -- it would certainly explain his SCRATCHING his penis...sometimes to the point of erection. If we can beat this YEAST -- what will his prognosis be? Could this YEAST be causing his " can't sit still for more than 30 seconds " HYPERACTIVITY and his EXTREMELY POOR ATTENTION (can't focus for more than a few seconds). I'd like to hear from others who have WON the battle over yeast and their outcomes. How did you do it?
Guest guest
For my son - we used " Naturally Calm " (magnesium supp) for his hyperactivity - with great success. This was after we instituted Feingold Elimination and Low Ox diet. -- He is no longer hyper and can focus really well. When I saw his rash, I thought of my daughter Maddie..those rashes are quite painful, and I made my own diaper cream from coconut oil, manuka honey and the rash was usually gone within a day. I think it's yeast. I also think it's an allergic reaction to a food. Maddie only got those rashes when she got something she really shouldn't have had. I also believe 'allergies' are from severe lack of nutrition. Are you supplementing or just doing the diet? laura:) > > Best treatment for YEAST? > > My 11 yo son has been on two flagyl treatments and two fungal drugs since last May. Guest guest
I think maybe more than one thing is going on here. You have to treat the skin and bowl problems together, but they may need different things. If yeast is coming out of the bowl es and contaminating his skin causing the rash, you will have to treat him with mono stat or something until he stops pooping/peeing it out. The gut (and it sounds like you are getting a lot of stuff for charcole to be needed, good for you!!!) should be treated with antiviral and anti fungal and antibacterial at the same time so one doesn't just make room for another. Use probiotics to reestablish good flora. Use enzymes to lessen bowel irritation, and maybe some aloe juice (s is tasteless). If you haven't tested for metal, (and it sounds like you are on the ball so you probably have) do a challenge test with dmsa. The more things the immune system is juggling, the harder it is to deal with each thing. Along that thought avoid all allergiens (do a standard food panel) until gut heals, then rotate what you can after that. The rash may also be an allergic reaction (but I don't think so). I'm just a mom. Hope that helped? Serese > > Best treatment for YEAST? > > My 11 yo son has been on two flagyl treatments and two fungal drugs since last May.
