Guest guest
we grilled some steaks to day for some friends and the wife and I shared a 16 ounce rib eye. we had dinner around 5-30. now I feel so sleepy, so tired and so like no more energy is left in the tank! seems like I was told one time that protein like the steak I shared with my honey would really make you feel kind of drugged a few hours after eating it. having steak or any other kind of meat for dinner is some thing I don't do much. my sugar is 108, but man do I feel like I will fall out any moment now. some people say steak is one of the hardest meats to get out of your stomach and through the system. my brother in law says he feels bad for a few days after he eats a big steak. well I may even eat less steak for dinner if it makes me feel this kind of tired. I've ate it at lunch before and don't remember it making me feel this way. was just wondering if any of the rest of you are made to feel this way if you have ate a steak for dinner in the past? I was out side a lot to day and this is as well a thing I don't do much of any more. I did read some where that a few hours a day out in the sun will also make you very tired and ready for bed at night. they do say to get at least 30 minutes a day of sun light so it can reset your body clock. I'm here to let you know that the combination of sun and steak in the dinner hour is a monster to deal with. don't go fishing like my friends did after they ate or you could fall in the river if you was to feel like I'm feeling right now. think I should have stuck with my cottage cheese or a salad? o but how I love a grilled rib eye in the grate fresh air! Guest guest
The recommended serving size for red meat is something like 4 ounces I believe. And it's very possible, Mark, being outside did in fact help you to feel tired. Don' know for sure though. Could be mostly the excessive amount of steak. Guest guest
kind of funny to think of ordering a four ounce steak at the restaurant. I use to always order the largest steak they had to offer and I made fun of those who would order the small steak. well look who has the shoe on his foot now? can't think of the name of those little round steaks that some times will have bacon wrapped around them. they will weigh in at six or eight ounces and to me that is maybe four bites if you cut them small. so I thought I was doing good at only eating half of a 16 ounce and compared to what I use to do, well I was doing good. only four ounces! this here may be the reason why now I don't eat much steak any more. love a fine grilled steak that has been in the ice box over night just sitting in it's juice and spices, just preparing it self for the grill the next day. makes me sad to think that the 16 ounce steak I'm fixen to grill is 4 meals! never thought I would ever do this or even have to do this. times sure do change, don't they? so sleepy! so tired! feel like I ran ten miles! we grilled some steaks to day for some friends and the wife and I shared a 16 ounce rib eye. we had dinner around 5-30. now I feel so sleepy, so tired and so like no more energy is left in the tank! seems like I was told one time that protein like the steak I shared with my honey would really make you feel kind of drugged a few hours after eating it. having steak or any other kind of meat for dinner is some thing I don't do much. my sugar is 108, but man do I feel like I will fall out any moment now. some people say steak is one of the hardest meats to get out of your stomach and through the system. my brother in law says he feels bad for a few days after he eats a big steak. well I may even eat less steak for dinner if it makes me feel this kind of tired. Guest guest
Hi Mark and all. Are you staying away from meat because of the fat? Because if you are for your diabetes, well, u don't have to because meat have little to no carbs in it. Now calories, that might be a different story. scott
Guest guest
No I actually dig meat, but mostly eat fish. never have been a big meat eater, but really dig a grilled steak from time to time. I now believe it was the steak and the 3 hours of sunshine that my body isn't use to that done the trick. felt just like I use to back in the days of doing drugs for the fun of it. after being up for 2 or 3 days, well your body will tell you it is going to crash with or with out you and this is how I felt last night. Now I haven't partook of drugs for the fun of it for more then 30 years. I finally grew up and gave up the habit. what I done for many years later was over eating instead. can't figure out now which will kill you faster? I suppose we most all got some kind of a vice in our life of some kind. actually I think I may have had maybe ten vices! don't think only one would have been enough. Guest guest
Mark, You are correct about beef being the toughest protein to digest. Also, as others have said, 4 oz. Is really the most you should eat at a time. Between the tough digestion problem, and the sun, that is why you are feeling so tired. Remember also that steak has fat in it and as the hours go by, that fat content may make your BG go up. I'm not feeling to well today either. I feel like I am getting a cold. I have not had a cold in years, but have a sore throat, sneezing and just feel crappy. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2012 7:15 PM To: blind diabetics Subject: so sleepy! so tired! feel like I ran ten miles! we grilled some steaks to day for some friends and the wife and I shared a 16 ounce rib eye. we had dinner around 5-30. now I feel so sleepy, so tired and so like no more energy is left in the tank! seems like I was told one time that protein like the steak I shared with my honey would really make you feel kind of drugged a few hours after eating it. having steak or any other kind of meat for dinner is some thing I don't do much. my sugar is 108, but man do I feel like I will fall out any moment now. some people say steak is one of the hardest meats to get out of your stomach and through the system. my brother in law says he feels bad for a few days after he eats a big steak. well I may even eat less steak for dinner if it makes me feel this kind of tired. Guest guest
now if we go by Dave's advice and so far he has only gave grate advice, we should make the eight ounce steak you are talking about be 2 meals! I may have to put a sack over my head when I only eat half of this steak out in public. certainly don't need any real steak lovers to see a big boy like me eating only half of a eight ounce steak! plus if the cook seen me only eat half, he or she would think it wasn't cooked right or just have there feelings hurt and back slap my fat butt over backward out of my chair. can't figure out though how I will eat my only two bites with a sack on my head? so sleepy! so tired! feel like I ran ten miles! we grilled some steaks to day for some friends and the wife and I shared a 16 ounce rib eye. we had dinner around 5-30. now I feel so sleepy, so tired and so like no more energy is left in the tank! seems like I was told one time that protein like the steak I shared with my honey would really make you feel kind of drugged a few hours after eating it. having steak or any other kind of meat for dinner is some thing I don't do much. my sugar is 108, but man do I feel like I will fall out any moment now. some people say steak is one of the hardest meats to get out of your stomach and through the system. my brother in law says he feels bad for a few days after he eats a big steak. well I may even eat less steak for dinner if it makes me feel this kind of tired.
