Guest guest
You've hit the proverbial head on the nail once more, Mark! Dave ~~ Now available: THE ATTACHÉ! -- From Desert Breeze Publishing ~~ Visit: http://www.authordavidbond.com Upcoming releases: A TIME TO BUILD -- June, 2012 SWEET MUSIC -- October, 2012 A TIME TO HEAL -- February, 2013 OUT OF THE DESERT -- July, 2013 A TIME TO DANCE -- November, 2013 Hospital stay. Last trip to the hospital for me there was a fellow who was told he was a T 2 and he had to change his diet. I still remember him asking the doc what was all the free foods he could still eat all he wanted? actually the saw bones wasn't understanding what he was asking and the nurse had to explain. the fellow wanted to know what foods he could continue to eat all he wanted of. the doc told him eating all he wanted was one of his biggest problems and he had to change his attitude about that. the fellow said letis should be a free food and so should anything you put in a salad. that old boy told the doctor that he had to eat enough to fill him up or he would be right back looking in the ice box for more to eat. he said when his belly told him it was hungry he had to eat or he would be sick. I have no clue how he is doing, but I do recall his A1C was sixteen. every one there was very concerned about his diet he was eating, but he didn't seem to think it was a big deal. He even said he thought milk was a free food. he said his Momma told him as a kid that milk made you strong and healthy and he had drank milk all his life and what would he drink if not milk? when they said water was good I thought he was going to lose it. he said he hated water and it had no taste. I don't know how much he was weighing, but my nurse said he looked to be at least 100 pounds more then me. I was weighing then 317 at that time. it wasn't sounding like the old boy was understanding very well about food and what he needed to do to change his thinking. he said there was a good reason for all you could eat restaurants. he said the food we eat now days just doesn't fill you up as it did years ago. he said we have to eat more of it because it is all poor food now. that ask him what kind of exercise could he do and he told them he was to big and got to tired when he tried to walk. he said walking was bad for his heart and so he didn't do any kind of exercise. I bet you a dollar to a doughnut that he will never figure it out and his over weight and T 2 diabetes will kill him in the end. the nurses said they was feeding him a diabetic meal, but he would call people who was bringing him fast food to the room between meals at the hospital. the nurse said he isn't the only one who comes through the hospital with the attitude he had. she said most diabetics have the same attitude and say they can't change even if it takes there life. she said the one's who change are the smaller group. sure glad I'm finally one of the smaller numbers who did change. really sad to think of all those that say they can't. probably it is they won't instead of can't? Guest guest
Wow. I hope the guy is still living. I have been a bit of a bad girl today. I am watching the Tigers opening game and Boston has just tied the game in the ninth inning. But I ordered a pizza from my favorite place. The good news is took a couple bites. I am full because I took two pieces and finished the one had started. But that is it for today. I also treated myself to a diet Pepsi because I have not had it before. I mean I have had diet Coke and Faygo before. I am working on starting to exercise and that is my next goal. Start the exercise and get a good test every time I try. And get my water drinking back up there where it should be. I think if I can get all those things done within the next week I will be able to start getting that A1C number down. I think he will only check it once every several months. It was 9 months this time. I will feel a lot less stressed when that other doctor comes and removes 's feeding tube. We think that is causing him infection or something is because he had a really high white count, 18 I think. But I remember he had that in 2007 when he had a blood test. Dr. gave him some antibiotics. The one thing I notice is that I am very very full after only a couple pieces of pizza, unlike when I was in my 20s. Guest guest
Hi, that is ok that u are having pizza. I am too tonight. Actually both me and my wife are. We ordered from pizza hut. Eating in moderation is the key to any sort of special diet, at least that is what my wife's doc tells her. She is not a diabetic though,m and i guess it depends on the doctor what they tell u about eating. scott Original message: > Wow. I hope the guy is still living. Guest guest
I'm glad you enjoyed your pizza, but remember, not only the crust (which they put oil on before adding other stuff) raises your BG, but later, the cheese will start digesting and also raise your BG. OK. I really need to get on that I know. Maybe like Dave says I need that new lance device. I think Sir Lancelot is working OK, he seems to be but maybe I am not getting as good a poke as I should. He is still only my first one. Hospital stay. >> >>> Last trip to the hospital for me there was a fellow who was told he was >>> a T 2 and he had to change his diet. Guest guest
Hi Mark: How right you are. I am just so proud of you and how you have changed your whole life style. I admit that once in a while I will eat things I shouldn't, but for the most part I stick to what I should eat. I am not good with carbs though. I live on my own and have noone to go over carbs with me. Is there a chart that anyone has that can give me an idea of carbs? I have a really really really old book that talks about calories and I would like to switch to low carbs. it sounds like everyone is having such good luck with them. I am still using my acucheck machine and you can enter in how many carbs you have had. i sure hope that this machine keeps working for a while with the voice mate two because I just love it. I know I have mentioned this before. I'll get another meeter when I need too, but I really am hoping this ones lasts for a long long time. it is the best one I have ever had. I agree with you folks who say that your meeter is your best friend for keeping tabs on your blood sugar. yesterday is history. Tomorrow a mystery. Today is a gift, that is why it is called the present. Hospital stay.
