Guest guest
Dr. Mercola recommends a quick shower after sweating in the sun, but only soaping up the usual suspects in terms of stink. I think you know which those are :-) Hi Everyone, Because Vitamin D is one is one of the nutrients the majority of us are deficient in, I thought I'd share a couple of points about it I've recently learned: 1) Vitamin requires magnesium for proper absorbtion - so make sure you and your kiddo are getting plenty. You can give them 1,000,000 iu's a day, but if there is no magnesium to assist, its a complete waste of time. 2) when a person is outside getting sun exposure, the vitamin D is manufactured in the skin. So jumping in a pool of chlorine will wash it away. Showering and scrubbing it all away with soap will, too. Now I give my kids their D after shower time. Because my older guy lives in the pool from june-september, I'll probably supplement atleast a little all summer this year. hth someone. -tammy -- Toni------Mind like a steel trap...Rusty and illegal in 37 states. Guest guest
I've been kind of confused about Vitamin D and I haven't been supplementing it because I just don't know what to do with it. I was giving 1000 ui a day but I think maybe that was too little? I'm kind of curious about the ballpark ranges of Vit D people are giving their kids. I get a nagging feeling that what I was doing was too low. I heard Vit D needed fats to be absorbed. And I've also heard it has a relationship with Vitamin K.I haven't been supplementing magnesium yet because I don't know under what circumstances I should be supplementing magnesium or why or what kind. My DAN sort of hinted at Magnesium Glycinate. Guest guest
It took over 1y of 5000iu/day of D3 to get my 120# daughter's levels from 19 to 76[our doc likes to see over 80.] For some reason, testing last fall showed a decline to 58. We did 10,000iu/day for 2 mos which got levels back to 86. Recommendations now of 8-9000/day for maintenance from our doc. > > > > > > > > > Hi Everyone, > > > > Because Vitamin D is one is one of the nutrients the majority of us are > > deficient in, I thought I'd share a couple of points about it I've recently > > learned: > > > > 1) Vitamin requires magnesium for proper absorbtion - so make sure you and > > your kiddo are getting plenty. Guest guest
Yep. Fat, too. Which is easy in this house. But maybe not so much in others. My son's dan recommends 2000i.u.'s./day. But too me, even that conservative. Especially in the winter months. I pour between 2000 and 5000 here - just sort of pour without watching for an exact measurement. I've read about connection with vitamin k, too. But I don't know anything at all about K, except that it's on my list of other-things-to-lear-about. Alberta, you should really study up on magnesium. Like selenium and iodine, the general population in deficient. Magnesium is responsible for something crazy like 300 functions in the body. It's one of those cheap, easy supps that really arent taken seriously because they ARE cheap and easy. You may want to consider it. Guest guest
You need magnesium to help absorb calcium too. My son is on magnesium citrate but I have heard they are all fine except magnesium oxide (Jerry Kartzinel says no no to oxide). Magnesium helps them poop too. Vitamin K is great but you can OD on it so just give D with magnesium. Guest guest
Honestly I have no idea. I give citrate too. I use Thorne's Magnesium Citrate. I think it might have to do with causing oxidative stress. In the McCarthy/ Dr. Jerry Kartzinel book it says not to give magnesium oxide and at the time I was using the Vitamin Shoppe's magnesium blend that was citrate and oxide, so I switched. Dr. Kartzinel didn't say why NOT to use oxide. Plus my DAN doc told me to use citrate, also I didn't ask why...I am clueless. :-( Judy Hi Everyone, Because Vitamin D is one is one of the nutrients the majority of us are deficient in, I thought I'd share a couple of points about it I've recently learned: 1) Vitamin requires magnesium for proper absorbtion - so make sure you and your kiddo are getting plenty. Guest guest
Mag Oxide, like Oxypowder would be very appropriate if the child has constipation, especially if it has been a problem for a long time like it is in so many of our kids. It should be paired w as much vitamin C as it takes to support the child, (1000mg per day in our house) until BMs are coming at a regular frequency then citrate form of magenesium would be the best ongoing, going forward for a good every day magnesium. The Oxypowder Web Site is interesting as is Carolyn Dean's book magnesium miracle. > > >  > > > > > >  > Hi Everyone, >  > Because Vitamin D is one is one of the nutrients the majority of us are deficient in, I thought I'd share a couple of points about it I've recently learned: >  > 1) Vitamin requires magnesium for proper absorbtion - so make sure you and your kiddo are getting plenty. >  > -tammy >
Guest guest
I thought the mag oxide was only if the child has diarrhea as it usually has a constipating effect. We use mag glycinate because (supposedly) it's the most gentle on the stomach. It was very effective for us for awhile but now my daughters constipation is creeping back w/ the use of iron. Now I'm in a pickle because she is responding very well to the iron but this constipation cannot continue! Any thoughts? Guest guest
People who are mercury toxic should avoid magnesium oxide, per Andy Cutler. Most of our kids are mercury toxic. One of the best recommended magnesiums is glycinate. > > > > Hi Everyone, > > Because Vitamin D is one is one of the nutrients the majority of us are > deficient in, I thought I'd share a couple of points about it I've recently > learned: > > 1) Vitamin requires magnesium for proper absorbtion - so make sure you and > your kiddo are getting plenty. Guest guest
, I posted about Mag Oxide earlier -- for constipation. We were advised by our DAN O'Hara for our daughter to take Oxypowder. She was a severe constipation case, gut, mito, PANDAS for years before we took her there. Our son was already w the practice. She advised to Oxypowder/Vit C combo and it worked. Eventually, 9 months or a year later she was better and we went to Klaire Magnesium Citrate, Tri-Mag also works nicely but I need to special order that so it's less likely I'll have it in the house. There are roughly 5 types of magnesium and they act differently. There is some truth in the notion that you need to keep a few types in your house, and you need to find your dose. Everyone is different and different situations warrant different care. Best wishes. > > I thought the mag oxide was only if the child has diarrhea as it usually has a constipating effect.
