Guest guest
Most bread type foods are in the carbohydrate family. Meats, and many vegetables are not. Your taco meal might not be all that high in carbohydrates depending on the type of taco shell. You need to find out the number of grams of carbohydrates in a shell (or whatever you use). Pretty much everything else you listed you have with your taco shell contain few if any carbohydrates. This is another reason to do frequent bg checks after eating a given meal. You'll eventually catalog the amount of insulin you need to take for a particular meal. I have to be honest here. I have not even told my doctor this and do not plan to because well, she don't need to know. But anyway now i am doing my bg 4 to 5 times a day. Before I got the prodigy voice my wife had to help me so we didn't do it only once or twice a day. Anyway i digress. I never took isulin after eating tacos because one time i did and my sugar crashed. Do tacos and taco salads have carbs in them? On mine i put meat, cheese, tomatoes, sauce, and maybe a little tiny bit of lettuce. thanks all. I know i could lok this up online but i don't know of a good place that has nutrishional info like carbs and stuff. Guest guest
The shells have carbs and it depends on if the shell is made with flour tortilla or corn tortilla as to how many carbs. What kills me in a taco salad is the amount of fat with the cheese, sour cream, avocado and if the shell is fried instead of baked. My sugar always goes up later, so I give my insulin twice. Once is for the shell, maybe one or 2 units and then about an hour an a half later another 3 or 4 units. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Sent: Saturday, April 07, 2012 6:48 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: for those who take insulin Hi. Guest guest
As Pat shows us, how we treat our diabetes is a highly customizable thing. She's discovered, through trial and error, or simply call it experience, how to manage eating a taco. While eating foods like tacos isn't the best way to go, again, it's moderation. It's substituting something unhealthy for something healthy for the shear pleasure of variety. It's okay now and then. Dipping a toe in the warm waters of unhealthy food won't drown us. Only if we choose to spend our life submerging ourselves there will we suffer consequences we want to avoid.
